Hey guys....well I redid my water feature. Two months ago, I posted my initial attempt at modeling a back eddy of a larger lake and asked for opinions. I appreciated all the responses. My bottom line, I was never happy with that attempt. I thought the combination of deep black was way too concentrated and just did not look right with the rest of the scenery.

During the last two months, I bit the bullet and sanded down the smooth surface of the epoxy and repainted it will my acrylics. I did just a little attempt at varying the color. Overall, it is the basic soil color used for the rest of the layout. I added more detail to the banks and then left everything dry for a few weeks while I worked on other stuff and had a chance to evaluate my results.

Last weekend, I purchased Woodland Scenics "Murky water" (Deep Pour) to use instead of Envirotex. This product already is tinted to look just like murky water . This was the effect I wanted to achieve. It is a two part product that is mixed together. You must read the instructions with this product and follow them closely. Truth is, it was a little tedious as I used 4 boxes to fill my area. From start to finish, it took around 2 hours.

After the last pour, I hit the top of the water with a hair dryer set on low heat. This produced a few very small ripples and some slight discoloration in a few areas that looks just like "scum" on a slow moving body of water. However, this is tough to see on the pics.

After all of this, I am very happy with my results. My wife threatened me with bodily harm if I changed my mind again.

I still have more details to add, ground cover, some fisherman and a rowboat with kids in it.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Donald

Wow!! It's cool to see the transformation from what is was then to what it is now! First pics I said to myself, that's nice, it's not too dark, then I read where you said it looks like black in some areas so I went back and took another look, and agreed that you were correct. After I saw your "redo" pics I agree it came out much nicer. Not that I could even attempt to do what you did, at all. Very nice!

Awesome work!

I've always thought there is only one skill needed for great modeling: The willingness to tear it apart and do it again.

Thanks guys. I really like how it turned out and how it compliments the other scenery and stone / rockwork.

Yes, I agree with Pete. If you are not satisfied with your work (track, scenery, whatever it may be)…...bite down on a stick, save what you can and rip out the rest. Chances are, your 2nd or even 3rd effort will be well worth it!
