I have a Weaver 6612 Fa2 road #5550 diesel and I think it needs a new e-unit. The engine does not move when the track is powered, after several on/off of the transformer the engine will move but you never know when or which direction it will go. Pushing the direction button on the transformer does not work.

Since Weaver is out of business, does anyone know where to get an e-unit or where I can have it repaired?

Thanks

My suggestion might be to simply find a used Weaver unit and rob the board out of it or conversely purchase an aftermarket reversing board.  Unless you are running multiple units together, the board really doesn't matter as much as the function you are hoping to achieve.

You might also try simple things like checking the electrical connections, making sure the wheels and pickup rollers are clean, and finally cleaning the track.  I know it sounds basic, but two weeks ago I was running trains at a club layout and all my train kept stopping on a frog of a turnout.  After switching engines it did it again.  I thought the frog has lost power.  No, the track was just dirty.

All my other engines run fine on this track and it was just wiped Sat.

That also means popping off the body, pressing any plugs and/or boards securely in place, looking for wires on the verge of becoming disconnected or being pinched, stray bits of wire (clean it with canned air if you have it - otherwise blow in its ear...).

In other words, look at the thing. Just get familiar. Probably won't fix it, but 10% of the time it actually does (ask me how I know), and it's free.

Dallee sells e-units; used ones on eBay; pretty much any 3RO unit for DC motors unit will do.
