I have a Weaver 2-bay covered hopper that I would like to replace the plastic trucks and couplers with diecast trucks and couplers.  Are there any Lionel or K line trucks and couplers that will mount to Weaver cars.  As of right now, I cannot find any Weaver diecast trucks and couplers on the marker.

Thanks,

Nick

Nick,

Lionel said they would release them when they announced the 'Lionscale' line is cars... so they should be coming shortly.

I just ordered bunch of the 6-14251 die cast sprung trucks with the rotating bearing caps. I wasn't sure if those were the ones on the new Lionscale cars or not. They can be made to fit the old Weaver cars, but they take a little extra effort.

First the mounting hole in that truck is much too large. I fabricated a new bushing from Plastruct tube. Even with the new bushing, the cars ride too high, and part of the center beam needs to be removed to lower it down to a more reasonable level. Finally, a washer needs to be used in combination with the old Weaver mounting screw.

So the real question is: are there different trucks being made for the Lionscale cars, or did they modify the tooling of the cars to accept these trucks directly?  I guess I'll find out when my Lionscale cars arrive. Not that it really matters at this point, I'm committed to doing it this way now.

The new LS trucks are supposed to mount and fit just like the originals, using interchangable bolsters.

I saw and read that topic, but it sounds like I jumped the gun. Those are not the ones in the catalog.

I have the same need as the OP.

I've heard from the mouths of Lionel reps as well as others about the LionScale cars/trucks.

Since they're not THE Weaver trucks, and since there are 'some changes' ala Lionel...

...I remain confused about the fit to early Weaver/Quality Craft.

I'm simply going to wait until our LHS has them in stock....when I can evaluate for myself.

'Til then, it's so much speculation.

Patience, patience, patience.

Nick,

I'm looking for a couple pair of the plastic Weaver trucks if you get replacements and you want to sell the ones you take off your cars.

Nick,

Do you need the bettendorph plastic trucks or roller bearing trucks?    I may have some of the plastic ones but no couplers I can spare.

Let me know.

Elliot,

Since the Lionscale trucks will fit Weaver Cars, I think i'll just wait until the new trucks become available for purchase from Lionel.
