The crew of Redbird #510 was idle when they were requested to move and spot an empty  hopper and cab.  Turns out there were two cabs including a Southern one,

Both Cabs by Brother-Love.

I got this Wednesday from ebay. It had a few issues but otherwise very nice and cheap! I fixed the roof walk in minutes with some Gorilla glue and touched up the silver paint. I will need to make the missing grab irons for the cupola. Then she will be ready for service.  One question is there is a switch on the underside is that for a smoke unit?? Thanks

Another one from the National Capital Tackers show at the B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore, 12/26-12/31/16. This MTH Amtrak work train has one of the most unusual power units I've seen.

Steve it's funny you ask about that one.  I actually stumbled crossed these at a local grocery store one evening the week before Xmas.  They had a few Chevy and Ford pickups and I had never seen the metallic forest green before.  They were...get this...buy one get one free for $3.99 ea.  They manufacture indicated on the bottom is "KinsSmart".  On the rear axle case is also indicates Kinley Die-Casting Mfy...LTD.  I picked p the green, blue, red and yellow.  Thanks.

BTW,,,fix that ladder before a crew member falls of it. (I have a few K-Line Bay's.....just squeeze the ladder at the top until it's vertical.)

Southern had brown and later on red cabs.  Unfortunately it is hard to find totally prototypically correct Southern baywindow cabs.  But the K-line were kind of close.

K-4 meets Hudson. Special thanks goes to Gun Runner John for the sound board replacement in the K-4.

I grew  up in the Carolina's and loved those red bay windows. I know a correct SRR Bay in plastic is not made....but I just want as close as I can get. The brown cabooses must have been gone by 1970 when we moved to NC.  thx

Would you mind sharing how you did your crossings in the curves?  I have a couple 3 track crossings I need to complete but have already put the roadway up to the ties.  Thanks.

Dave, the Morning Side book on Southern equipment pictures both brown and red bay-window cabs.  But unfortunately no info of when what was what.

Todd, lol, it's an optical illusion.  He must of used a fisheye lens or something.  I don't know how he did it.  lol

Todd - In the picture with the curved crossing, I used cork sheet spray painted flat black. I simply traced and cut the cork into the shape of the road. However, whats even better about the cork, is the edge of the road thats up against the curved rail did NOT need to be cut. The beauty of the cork sheet is that its flixible enough to adhire to the curve of the rail without warping the whole road. There is a thin sheet of balsa wood between the rail ties and the road to make it flush. I actually love the result. If/when I make roads on a future layout I will use this method again but will add a more significant support structure under the cork for the ramp up to the rail sine the cork is considerably thin.

In the second picture (mid-level of the layout) I used masonite that was cut to length and spray painted black. While it still looks good, its kind of a pain to cut and bevel the edges. The finish is also too smooth for a road which is another reason why I loved using the cork. The cork looks like freshly paved asphalt.

Sam, if you run the smoke keep a close eye on it. After about 15-20 minutes the window beside the smoke unit will start to melt. Don't ask me how I know this.

Last weekend at the GBGH. My JLC Y6b with fresh traction tires pulling my tuscan boxcar collection.

I previously did my skies.  I put in 3 hours this afternoon and partially painted some backdrop hills, fields, and trees.  Since I am painting on the basement concrete walls, you can see all the holes.  I am having some problems with the detailing of the hills and fields because the brushes are not working well with the texture of the concrete walls.  I will put in the foreground trees and bushes tomorrow.  I am attaching before and after photos of what I did today.
