The island of Sodor is busy with many visitors coming for Super Bowl parties this weekend. Thomas and Percy are feeling lucky to be in the warm sunshine on the west coast of the Isle of Sodor as they hear about big snow storms recently on the east coast of the Mainland. Railways on the east coast were cancelled or some trains stuck in the snow. Percy and Thomas took the visitors for a ride to see the spring flowers just coming out on a sunny day. They are proud to be wearing Blue and Green the colors of the neighbouring Seahawks also from the west coast.

 

At the Seahawks 12th man carnival they recently added a Gunderson Maxi stack train set to the mini rail train to carry more passengers coming for the big event.

 

Have a great weekend whether running trains or watching the game. Looking forward to many great layout photos.

Check out the mods to my newly acquired DD35.  I bought two and modified one by fixing the pilot, adding full length handrails to both sides, moving in the trucks, adding details to the trucks and underbody, adding a yellow beacon (it works!), new hoses and weathering.  Here are some photos.

On CONUS Lines, Wheeling & Lake Erie action at Georges Creek Junction:

1.  Westbound mixed freight behind a W&LE SD40-2 and GP40 meets an eastbound CSX stack train.

2.  Wheeling SD40-2 #6353 passes 'A' Tower.

3.  GP40 #300, originally a New York Central GP40, went to the Chicago & Northwestern, then to Union Pacific, and then to an Ohio scrapyard before purchase by the Wheeling.  Here it provides the additional horsepower needed to conquer the 2.2% grade to Armstrong.

 

Note:  I photographed the actual #300, along with the W&LE Heritage (AC&Y), flat switching in Akron in December 2013.  It took a search on the Internet to determine the parentage of #300.  The prototype looked like a "kitbash" in 1:1 scale.

Rich, incredible effects on that DD35!! Looks amazing!

A tree fell on the G&O garden railroad on December 30.  It destroyed the O gauge Norris Falls bridge.  Reconstruction has begun by building a temporary bridge to check clearances.  This bridge will serve as the template for the actual bridge.  One of the challenges of building outdoors is that we have to accommodate the terrain just like the real railroads did.  We can't move or alter Norris Falls.  The engine on the bridge is a new Lionel Vision Line Big Boy.  It was the largest engine that we could get.

i see you like BL-2s.  I am not much for diesels, but I do have an MTH BL-2, Florida East Coast.  That and a Lionel Postwar 621 CNJ NW2 are the only diesels I have.  All of your engines here look great!!

Lots of wonderful photos here today, as always!  Thanks Scott for being so faithful to kick this off every week!!

 

Here is what I have been up to one handed so to speak after surgery Monday to remove cartilage and scar tissue from 20 year old carpal tunnel surgery.  I thought this little project could be done this winter while facing 2 surgeries.

 

It is my Phase 1 of the layout described in OGR Run 275 by Ken Hoganson.  I will cut in two more turnouts for the inside loop and then a couple of sidings later when funds permit buying the extra Fastrack switches.  I have an MTH NYC Hudson upgraded to PS2 on the point of the freight.  And yes, I am getting used to the DCS system, and love it so far.  I show a variety of freight cars by MTH, Lionel, Atlas-O, and Weaver.

 

Please note in the last frame the Woodland Scenics Ethyl's Service Station is under new ownership.  It is being renamed Patrick's in honor of Patrick H, because I purchased it from him when he tore down his fabulous layout.  Patrick was sharp enough to notice that I live about an hour from him, and invited me to two open houses where I met the wonderful guys from the Pittsburgh area.  Thanks Patrick!!

As one of my friends would say, "'Taint prototypical!".  In any case, my friend Mitchel Dakelman brought over his new MTH PRR E-44, and we triple headed it with my original one from the first run and my new one from the current release.  Well, when they get about 10 miles or so railroad east of here at Enola Yard, there will actually be some catenary to draw juice from!

I can see the catenary just fine. The flying bricks are the best.
