Had my first day off in many months, so I went to one of my favorite spots in VA: Goshen.
Too early to post 2023 plans, so one more week of older drive-in scenes. I will have one on this year's Christmas Layout.

This week, I have a photo of the kind of scenery that inspired me to build a layout depicting rural Pennsylvania and some panoramic photos of the layout that shows how it all turned out.
First here is an image of rural Pennsylvania showing the farmland and mountains in the distance:
Now here is a panoramic view of the hamlet of Longfellow along A Route 103. I've posted photos of this house in the past, but never such a wide angle shot:
And about 10 miles to the west is the tiny town of Mattawana (McVeytown to the PRR!) which is always one of my visitors favorite scenes:
And finally, here is a view of a pasture filled with dairy cows between Port Royal and Mifflintown. A small barn can be seen in the distance to the right:
Sorry there are no trains in the photos. I was just walking into the layout room and captured these with my cell phone camera, but I think you get the idea! But for those of you who want to see a train, click on the following link to the YouTube video:

That's it for this week...enjoy!

This was certainly nice to run into on your visit! Was it planned or a happy coincidence?

Hey Dave,
It definitely was planned . I frequent the area that she was staged at for numerous outdoor rec activities, so I ensured that it was on my agenda to see her.
Regards,
I've been working on my Altoona Model Works boiler house kit for a while now. Decided to take a break from it and work on a Downtown Deco kit for a change.

Let me preface this by saying that I have had the honor and privilege of seeing Neal’s layout in person…..he is the very best person I have ever seen to do the “scenery to backdrop” transition. It is truly amazing!

Thank you for your comments, Peter! I truly appreciate it. I can honestly say that backdrop painting is my favorite part of the hobby. I enjoy looking at all the images of your group’s modular layout as well and the work you do on your own layout!
Ken,
The layout looks great and the Chessie is really nice.

Since our 21x47 modular layout is coming down with the loss of our lease, these are a few of my favorite pictures from it.
My modular group colleague Walt is a master at Fall scenery!
Have a great and safe weekend, folks!

Thanks to @Dj'sOgaugetrains for parting with this very precious car to me. I tend to try and get examples of most of the projects I have helped Sunset, 3rd Rail, and Golden Gate Depot on, but of course I can't get it all. I let the brass SP built 3/4 domes get away when originally offered. While my role on the project was limited to mostly the Amtrak version, this car is unique and will see run time on my very stylized Southwest Limited as a special lounge for the sleeping car passengers. Granted that while the former ATSF "Great Domes" did run on that train during peak season, the full dome is the one Amtrak item I don't have from Sunset. At least not yet.
I now have nearly all the cars for a fairly accurate 1978/79 "Coast Starlight" too a few years prior to the train being upgraded to Superliners.
A little late but here is an original Lionel TMCC Veranda. I test and do some simple repairs for a friend who sells on that popular auction site and this was in the pile. Noisy rear smoke unit fan was all this had wrong. Runs like a clock.
It is side by side with my Legacy Veranda #X65 fantasy Flag Version
