A few days ago I FINALLY completed the last bit of detail work on my model of the PA Route 35 bridge crossing the PRR at Mifflin PA. Part of that work consisted of placing drivers and passengers in the vehicles and more importantly recreating the following scene from reality:
This is based on photos I took back in 2012 when I took both my kids on a tour of the Middle Division. We stopped on the bridge to look at trains as I have done so many times over the years. The figures represent from left to right, me, my son Steven, and finally my daughter Caroline. What I really liked was the model of the little girl with the pony tail which is how she really wore her hair that day. All that was necessary was to repaint the hair on the model in a darker color to match hers, though I may go back and repaint the pants on me and my son to look like jeans.
For comparison, here are photos from that day back in 2012 when I took pictures of the real thing. You can even see the expansion dam running across the sidewalk in the model picture and the one of Caroline:
and here is an image of Steven pointing out some "bridge deck rot..."
A few pictures of the layout coming together...
The downtown area is looking better and better! The new YORK Hotel and Paramount theater are in place and lit up. The 3d printed fire hydrants added a nice touch! And Starbucks is open, not sure why they turned off the lights inside but I'll get onto them about that when I get home!
A better look at the YORK after getting some gargoyles, a new internally lit sign, and the bottom floor lit up! Looking at the picture, I need to cut the old lights that were shining up on the old sticker sign. They take away from the new one. If anyone wants to tackle painting and wiring their own YORK sign, I printed off an extra.
"John's On The Water" is apparantly open for business even though that deck has NO SUPPORT under it yet as it stretches out over the river.
If I had been able to go....that's where the bulk of my cash would go......
Kit bashers dreamland!!!!!
Scenery is almost finished. Long-time modeler Jerry Keys showed me how to use plaster cloth over foam to make mountains and it was an interesting experience. Gives a different look to the surface (almost like fractured rock) than I'm used to and appears similar to what I remember seeing as a boy in the hobby magazines.
This is a lift-out section for access to the rear tracks.
He constructed the large corner with the coal mine and assigned me the task of replicating the look across the cut made by the RR
WOW Christopher, that 611 shot looks like a painting.

A bit more progress on the 304 Korber round house , it's awaiting the Big Boy extension, roof detail, and weathering.
Until recently, I have not had time to admire how nice this 3rd Rail SF E8 really is. So, I did a photo album and a video of this engine and posted them on my website. CLICK HERE to seem more photos and a short video.

Brian,
Can you please tell me where you got the Amtrak AEM 7 picture from?
i will try and find it....
Pictures from my recent travels......my wife always attends a course in northern VA every year. I go with her and on the Friday I go to Gettysburg. This year my son and Max (of Max Foods) joined me. I never tire at looking at the old RR station.
Here's the 3 of us at Cushing's battery on Cemetery Ridge.
Here's an old picture of my son running trains....about 18 years ago.

Next is the WBA meeting at the Marley Station Mall in Glen Burnie, Maryland which was is host to a spectacular 3 rail display. These fellows do a fantastic job and are to be commended for the money they raise for local charities....

Thanks for the photos Alex. I have the Roundhouse same model as this, the 304 Korber roundhouse it is called. I hope you don't mind using your work as a guide line? Well done!

Joe B:
Google makes it pretty easy these days to find the source of many pictures:
In this case, I followed the first link returned and learned that this photo is by "Harry Hamburg/NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images".
