Town and country...
This week, I have two panoramic images showing the contrasts between the rural and urban areas of my layout. First is an image from the early early years of Penn Central in 1969. A westbound freight pulled by three four axle EMD units heads west with Blue Mountain and Carlisle Gap in the distance, just east of Mattawana:
By contrast, here is a photo of an urban part of the layout as it appeared in the 1950's. The image shows the diesel maintenance shop with a set of EMD passenger E units being washed at the facility set near downtown Altoona:
Enjoy that leftover turkey as well as the images!
I have been trying to find a nice steam tractor to park in my machine shop for awhile before I discovered Corgi made some in 1/50 scale. I finally got one and can’t believe how nice it is. I had the intention of stripping and repainting it but it’s way too nice!
Well, it's at least a start. 3 weeks of working on it so far - 2 of which were spent laying down the main feeder wires. about 3 more to go.
Here's a reminder of the track layout to help make sense of the pictures:
the lower level (the red rectangle will be an elevated plateau). dotted lines for me = ramp

The yardmaster needed to move a block of cars out to the departure track, but the only engine available was the *@#* C1. He was getting tired of rerailing it after it would go to ground on the sharp east turnouts. He decided to re-assign a H10 that was getting ready to leave with a local freight. He knew some customers would complain about a late delivery, but he would rather take the heat for that than mess with the C1.
Both the C1 and H10 are Weaver. Cars are Atlas.

Marty, I don't know how you did it but those lights along the ridges of the house and barn are a treat to the eyes! Really ingenious.

Both of these are Lionel products out of the box. The only mod I made to the barn was adding a flashing red LED to the "Rudolph" window.
Great photo's. Dave

@Scott Smith please tell us more about this tinplate Polar Express. A tinplate PE was something that I hoped for and over the years while at York casually lobbied MTH and Lionel to consider and come to an agreement to make such an offering under their Lionel Corporation Tinplate collaboration. Hopefully, when the time comes when Mike Wolf and his successors @MTH decide to bring out their tinplate tooling for another production run, they will work again with Lionel to bring a tinplate Polar Express to market. IMHO it would be a WIN/WIN/WIN for MTH, LIONEL and Hobbyists. BELIEVE

I showed Mike Phillips from Lionel the locomotive and cars at York. I paint matched my O-Gauge passenger cars to create this set. I purchased an old #318 shell along with some unpainted 300 series cars. The painted 318 shell will be removed in January and replaced with the gray MTH shell that came with the engine. This allows me to have the Polar Express during the holidays without buying another train. I used the Polar Express paint and painted 3 buildings as well.

thanks for clarifying Marty. I haven't looked for a new structure in several years now so I'm out of touch with newer stuff. They are really nice - good buy!
