Here are some photos of my Candy Cane train I painted up several years ago. I just upgraded it with a new drive and modern new motor, now just running on DC no reverse unit, fine for looping around the tree. Changed from candy to plastic candy canes. And redid the lettering with glitter silver letters on a gold background.
And inspired by the colors of the Hallmark Santa toy maker train I painted my own train up; “Santa’s Toy Workshop Express” after the Hallmark train came out similar paint scheme but with glitter lettering. Pulling 2 box cars, 2 flats with Hallmark Tonka Toy ornaments, flat car of presents and flat car with sleighs and wagons. Running on the holiday layout in the front room, a bit to large to fit under the tree!
And I showed some photos of the Polar Express event last week, we got some snow last weekend here is our museum Polar Express train running in the snow.
TGIF everybody! If you are in the Northeast like I am, stay safe during this winter weather we are expecting tonight through Saturday.
No new photos for this week, but here are some different ones. Enjoy!
Here's a Walters kit I just finished for Someone, and a River leaf model which I made for my own layout. Andre custom made the sign for me, I named this structure Dina's Tavern.
Another exceptional project Alex. Well done and I'm sure Dina loves it.
Some action on the Apple Valley RR Club this week. The Challenger is an older Rivarossi that someone added DCC & Tsunami sound to. A young friend added a warm LED headlight for me and got it running. The two RS2's are Atlas and the KCS E6 is a new BLI unit that I caught online for a mere $110 mailed! Full command & sound for $100 bucks new is a deal..
I've been working on an operational 3-bay open hopper car and coal trestle. A Lionel diecast hopper came with spring-loaded bay doors, and they just begged to be used. So I fashioned a way to (manually) operate them, then built a coal trestle with openings between the rails for the coal to fall through. I just posted a brief video showing the whole scene in operation, and showing how it was done, which includes use of shotgun shells and fishhooks.

great video, Bob! the coal dump is really nice.

Wow, a turnout to nowhere!
Hope everyone had a good week!
I couldn't stand looking at bare plywood for months until I get some scenery done, so I took a few hours & painted the board & the roads. MUCH better.
Had a lighted billboard custom made from a 'Greetings from Red Bank, NJ' ( My old home town as well as my wife's) - perfect for my NY&LB look I'm going for
Got this cool CNJ timetable from 1947 - Plan on putting up in the room
Some more rail shots from the Pokey -
NS 236 passes the Bluestone Interiors Factory as it prepares to head into Bluefield Yard
NS ES44AC 8057 leads a westbound coal drag across the massive trestle at Coopers , WV
NS ES44AC 8012 leads Q36 past the former N&W coaling tower in Capels, WV
NS AC44C6M 4001 heads past a classic N&W signal mast as it shoves 83A eastbound on the outskirts of Welch, WV
Another shot from the series I took that day, showing the open hole and fascia that sort of breaks up the scene in a way I'm not pleased with (but have no choice as I need ot get back there during op sessions).
Sirt, really nice as usual! How did you make the icicles hanging from the bridge?

Hot glue gun. Let the heated glue hang with gravity. Cool air will dry it, then cut pieces as desired and presto!
Many things can be made using hot glue . Car head lamps, tools, puddles of water and other misc. items.

The "Potomac Triple Crossing" is done! Maybe not as grand as the version seen in the Black Hall last October but I had a ton of fun just going around over the bridge....over and over and over again! Time for lots and lots of clean up!
This should keep me out of trouble for a while - at least working on this will hopefully keep me from buying anything. Several pre-orders are heading my way, including at least one engine.
I sure miss the RMT seated people - 50 people for about $50. The recent Nassau Hobbies sale allowed me to grab the Lionel scale people. I saw the Subway People as well and grabbed those. The Lionel people will be split between two passenger trains and the subway people will go in my subway (obviously!).

Hi John
Thanks very much

A "Redbird" and Santa.
Just some simple S Hirail set up in the man cave for Christmas:
Yes sir, nuthin' says Christmas like Atlantic Coast Line purple and silver!

Sirt I was figuring caulking and was wondering how you got it so thin. I haven't gotten to you link yet but I guess you just let it drip out of the glue gun, getting nice thin strands, cut to length then how do you attach it to the under side of the bridge, or eave or where ever you want icicles.
Jackiejr Love Granny's tube rentals I don't see the river but it must close by. I also like the little building to the right of the bridge. looks like a custom build, some Grandt Line windows some stone block paper. Like the skylights.
P51 Those fronts do look nice. They appear to be card stock, with a little moulding for cornices.
Two short videos of my under-construction layout:
This is the first time I've tried to post a video so I hope it works. Please forgive the crappy video, I shot it with my iPad. I've asked Santa for a better camera but I'm not sure which list (s)he has me on!
Joe
My son Brody is making sure the polar express is running on time.

Pretty cool. How many attempts before you got it right?

Jackiejr here. Thank you for the compliment & interest coach joe. Tubers go in at the far side of the dam, a short walk. Return pickup available. The building mentioned is my electric generating facility. The river can be diverted at the dam to power the generators. That was my thinking anyways. Too much free time on my hands maybe!
