Got all 3 tracks wired up & going this week & also started painting the board. Can't stand looking at bare plywood!
Also put up some shelves on the wall to hold some of the postwar sets.

Going to paint the rest of the board this weekend & start figuring out the upper level scenery, as I'll be starting there.

Some layout progress photos...

First, here are photos of my classic Quality Craft Models PRR tower that I've had sitting in a box for at least 30 years. I still remember buying it at York years ago in the back left hand corner of the blue hall.  Technically its a model of "Jacks" tower, but I am using it at Mifflin interlocking on my layout, which is to the east of Jacks interlocking.  Aside from the window arrangement, it is very similar to Jacks tower.  Because the windows are so large, I am doing a simple interior...not craftsman quality work, but enough so that one just does not look at the model from the aisle way and see nothing more than the inside of an empty wooden box!

Next, here is the turntable that we are working to install in the engine servicing area.  FINALLY, working on this after many years. I've had so many visitors ask when work would start in this area.  Work is being done my  friend Mark Vinski.

The last image is of four older Weaver hoppers that were weathered by my son Steven:

So with THREE of us at work, things are really moving!

Nice photos to start always enjoy everyone's interesting contributions of layouts real trains and projects, always the highlight of the week.

After doing 3 fall shows after the last show I packed up from the show in November on the Sunday night and instead of unloading the van and trailer next day started to set up for the Polar Express event at our railway museum. The event is running over 4 weekends with long 12 hour days on the Saturdays, 8 hour days on Sunday. Getting lots of modeling projects done while attending to the layout. After a 1 hour train ride with characters from the Polar Express and a nice scenic ride the families come into the "North Pole" in the roundhouse with my large Christmas village upstairs lots of controls on the fence for kids to run the trains and operate accessories, a visit with Santa, Toy train making, letters to Santa, a ride on a mini rail train through a tunnel, snacks a movie theater with the Polar Express, food. This year we opened a 2nd building the car shop as an Ice Palace where kids can get into the cab of a steam engine a ring the bell and blow the whistle, mini golf Polar Express theme a bouncy castle and large wooden play train. We now have 6 of our own coaches, + a 1st class business car, and being sold out for all trains well ahead of time we were able to borrow a Rocky Mountaineer coach as well to open a few seats. A pair of F7 vintage locos at the front pull the train.

I have 8 Lion Chief trains for the kids to run, and 6 other trains looping around including Chuggington engines, an Williams Alaska engine, The Coors Light Silver Bullet,  the Polar express with snow added to the roof, the hobo with a flickering fire, and bright red tail light. Overhead are planes, Santa and reindeer and Snoopy are flying. Hellgate, and wooden double track bridges and 2 more sets of bridges at the rear of the upper loop. I simplified the layout a bit by using my foam boards at the front with the green carpet and track attached from the other shows, and left more room this year to walk around. It left me with a few buildings to take home for my own Christmas Display in the front room. On the rear wall is a mountain / sky backdrop with star's and silver glitter to make it shine, and little lights that fade in and out as twinkling star's.  Click on photos for a larger view.

Here's the  infamous Lionel factory, want talk about a difficult Build. Not one part in the kit is straight, but I've built a few in the past so that made it easier. Still a beautiful structure.

Alex,

Very nice!  I always wondered about that kit, having seen it at York several times.  What you did  is impressive

Hi John

Thanks very much ! It's a beautiful structure, but pretty much everything is warped and totally out of square. Lot's of extra strength is needed to get this structure strong.
