A Visit To The Choo Choo Barn

Strasburg is within a short drive of York, PA, the site of the semi-annual TCA (Train Collectors Association) meet held at the York Fairgrounds each April and October. It's well worth a side trip, either the day before or after the TCA meet, to experience the sights and sounds of this layout in Strasburg.

Here are some photos from several scenes in the video:

Some scenes from my recently completed Food processing plant complex, including grain silo, power station, canning factory, water tower and water recirculating pond. There are steam pipes over the track to the grainery and some conveyors still to add. Finally, I will add more scrub brush to address the "clean grass" look.

The grain silo is kit bashed with a front from Korber and tubes from a recent rug installation, covered in spackeling compound, with kit bashed parts on top to finish it off. The building is an MTH Grainery building, which I am using as the food processing and canning factory.

The powerhouse is a Korber, with a home made generator inside, The transformer is an HO kit, the tank pumping platform is an outside fire escape stair section mounted on beam columns, the piping is leftover runners from various models, painted. The fuel tank is made from sections of drain pipe, painted and weathered. The Silo covers the top of the stair railing, upon which this entire complex sits. You enter the train room by walking up the stairs, from lower left to upper right.

The forground center is a cooling tower mounted over a home made water recirculating pond (cement lined), which was cut from foam using the Tippi hot wire cutter.

This complex uses a lot of bits and pieces left over from other projects. I added some lighting to make the area look better when running at night.  The design is modular, so I can remove everything in pieces, to do any maintnenance work on the track or access the wiring. There is a control pannel on nearby, with much wiring running near this complex.
