WEEKEND PHOTO FUN begins NOW!

The N&W J got pulled out of the VMT Wednesday and is on her way for new wheels.

Since they had to pull several trains out to get to it,it left the track empty long enough to take some photos of some of the other engines at the museum.

I spend much of Wednesday and some of yesterday trying to finish up the "Frozen" layout.

I have been painting rolling stock and hope to get the "Frozen Decals" ready to have the "Frozen Train" running for next Saturday's Train Lover's Day.

Let's see your pictures.

My new Lionel catalogs showed up a few days ago.  They were all shrunk wrapped together and the whole stack was about an inch thick.  There must have been 500 pages of trains and related items to look at.  It brought to mind how things were when I restarted in the hobby after an absence of a few years.  I was in high school at the time.  I pulled out my 1973 catalog which was all of 16 pages!  How times have changed.  If someone told me back then what the future held, I would have told them they were out of their minds.  BTW, I also pulled out my 1960 Postwar era catalog which has a rendering of my first set given to me at around the age of 4, and even that one was pretty thin too.

Check out this photo of the 1973 vs 2016 catalogs and see for yourself....

But back in the day, when the new catalog was at the dealers so was the product!

Remember those days well back into the early 50's.

No vaporware or BTO BS back then!  Better days.

The last two catalogs that actually got me excited were the 1956 Flyer catalog where they introduced the North Coast Limited and SF Freight scheme on the PA-1, and whatever year Lionel introduced the Trainmaster Diesel.  When I saw those trains in the Gilbert Hall of Science and the Lionel showroom I flipped out!

ps - Anybody else remember when BTO stood for Bachman-Turner Overdrive?

Just received my new purchase from Menards.  It is 1:48 scale cause it says so on the box.  It is a very nice model.  Good OD Green color, matches the rest of my military stuff.  Detailed cab interior.  Rear roll up door does not move but that's ok.  About $27.00 includes delivery and their special processing fee.  Does not inc mail in rebate of a little less than $2.00.  Have a look.001002003004005

The C&O Chessie System ACF Center Flow 2-bay covered hoppers that are navy blue with the yellow chessie the kitten graphics are K-Line brand cars made in China.

I thought he was talking about the coal hoppers in the photo he reposted.  The C&O hoppers are indeed the aluminum ones done by K-Line.  I'm slowly trying to get all 8 that they did -- when I can find them for a reasonable price.
