Weekend Photo Fun 3-10-17-??

While searching through “stuff” for the up-coming train show at the NCTM (for the first time inside the BACKSHOP) ran across this box. It is from the last Lionel set Mom and Dad gave me for Christmas. Anybody recognize it, what set and what year?

Unfortunately DON’T have the train set since the “EX” did not live up to the property settlement where all my childhood trains were in fact mine.

The set with Super O Track will have the high-end No. 1872 General with smoke and better detailing than the similar 027 No.1862 Locomotive. Also has a coach w/steam whistle.

I'm working on an NMRA clinic  (seminar) for our upcoming "Model Railroad Jamboree." I'll be talking about modeling small railroad/highway overpasses and underpasses.  The first pair of images is a screen shot of one of my projects which models the old US 11/15 underpass at the north end of Duncannon PA. The prototype is to the left, and actually shows the south side of the bridge. The model shot is that of the north side of the bridge.

The second pair shows the architectural detail of the coved concrete deck parapet, the stone abutment, and the concrete used to retain the fill and ballast after many years of adding new ballast.

Sam, you got it.  As I recall the MSRP was $49.95.  A close look at the box you will see 33.30 written in pencil.  The local department store gave a 1/3 discount.  And yes the "General" had valve gear detail that the others did not.

Been working on scenery the past couple weekends.

JDFONZ, Fantastic! Excellent! Realistic! An adventure for the eyes. Good coloration and unity. Handsome, indeed!

One of the real treats, for me, is the partially washed-out, partially collapsed hillside area between the trees. Very, very cool.

Update on the bulkhead flat. I made a permanent load using the original pipes and chocks, but I painted the ends and insides of the pipes a rust color. I replaced the original strapping with thinner more delicate straps, and I went off a prototype for their location. They are now actually attached to the car.

Alex, Korber Extreme by River Leaf built by Alex M.  That's a whole lot of high quality going into one model!  But I'm confused.  Is Andre producing kits for Korber or have you detaild a River Leaf with Korber windows or is Andre paying tribute to Korber by making a kit depicting one of the Muffin's bakeries?

Back on the home layout after sound repair, (Thanks, Marty FH!) The Lion Chief Patriot U36B is preparing for its trip to the Armed Forces Retirement Home early next month.

Getting stuff out preparing for the train show at the NCTM found these.  Lionel did a great job on these NYC style bay-window cabooses.  Including a Penn Central and Conrail versions.
