I was down at the club this week and ran a brand new never been out of the box MTH SP AC-6 Cab Forward. Nice runner but I don't care for the DCS controller in the least bit, nowhere's near a Legacy controller. Anywho, here is a short video of it pulling a short train on the Lone Star High-Railers club layout in Grapevine, TX.
Have a great weekend.

Staying with the back section for another week, this is the back right section.

Another week showing the temp 7'x8' Easter layout that I set up out of boredom being stuck inside. A secondary reason is that I have so much nice layout stuff for Easter that I could never use it all on my 11'x14' Christmas layout and I dislike having to pick and choose which items to use for the years that I have an Easter section on it. So I wanted a chance to see all of the items used.
Here's a reminder of what it looks like to give perspective to the closeups below:
These closeups are the upper left section shown above. I call it the 'food section' even tho' it's not obvious why in these pictures.

Isn't it amazing what was achieved without computer? It is humbling to think of all the precision work that was done with pen/paper and a simple typewriter before the computer age.....

One of the ways I enjoy the hobby is putting together sets, often one car at a time. My area of interest is Postwar with some MPC thrown in. Here's my latest, the MPC era Mid-Atlantic Set.
This is a very colorful six car set. I especially like the Sinclair tank car and the unusual 16-wheel generator deep well flat.

Nice work as usual, SIRT. Its not overweathered, just well done. Did you manufacture or purchase the end chains? If purchased, where did you get them? I've been looking for a source for my railking fleet.

It is late 1949 and my favorite photographer caught some one year old PRR F3s pulling a long freight. These EF-15s, referred to as Phase 2 Late by railfans, were the first F3s with the low pan tops. The Pennsy bought these in ABBA sets thinking 6,000hp was needed for most routes. They soon realized that ABA consists, having 4,500hp, was adequate for most operations.
The above photos of 3rd Rail's F3s show them pushed close together. Unfortunately the Lionel style couplers when couple correctly leave a very wide gap between the units.
These will probably be my first Kadee conversions.
Ron have Lionel F units which have shorter couplers then the ones in your picture. When they are coupled there is about 1/4" between the units. Probably not as close as a Kadee conversion. The part number for the Lionel coil coupler is 6208447550.

Andrew,
How is the red? Lionel really goofed with an almost orange shade on the recent “beer” insulated box cars, so much so I’m thinking about repainting them myself. I have an older model of the 60’ auto parts car, which is appropriately dark red and wondered about the color of this latest release. Thanks.

What diameter track will these F-units operate on?
Just went down and checked. Found a Lionel 031 switch and the F-units went through OK. These are Lionel Burlington F3 Or F7's ABBA's can't remember which from about 5 or so years ago.

The shade of red on the LIONEL Santa Fe P=S single-door 60' box cars does match the Santa Fe P-S double-door 60' box car.
I can take a photo of it tomorrow.
The Santa Fe beer car looks like a car that was painted in the 1970's and the red faded for 25 years, making it more appropriate for 1995-2000 era freight trains.

Andrew,
Thanks. I'd overlooked that these are single-door unlike the double car Santa Fe car from about ten years ago.
Myself, I can't accept the "beer" cars' color as fading. The 70s era Santa Fe "Indian Red" always seemed to weather to a dark, almost brown, shade, rather than fade to a lighter color. Some of the mineral box car red repaints seemed to fade, but to something akin to a red primer color. The almost orange color on the beer cars just doesn't look to me like any aged paint I've ever seen on Santa Fe's box cars. Maybe Lionel will get it right next time.

Here is a comparison of the Santa Fe Pullman-Standard 60' box cars.
In front is the double-door 60' box car.
