This week, I have a nice steam engine shot. Here is my Lionel B-6 switcher that the Pennsy fitted up with a larger tender so it could be used in main lines service to haul short trains:
I also finally started working on the last section of the layout after 26 1/2 years of work on the layout. Here’s a picture of that too:
On Monday and Tuesday I painted in some of the backdrop that will fit behind the town of Mapleton in this area, though there is still more to do:
Finally, there will be a good number of houses in this area. I’m going to use one of the old Model Power houses which were purchased by Lionel and they are now sold as kits. They are pretty toylike, so I replaced some of the walls with scratch built walls with far less windows, and I’ll leave off the shutters which will make them look far more realistic. You can see the kit as it is intended to be constructed on the lid of the Lionel box, and one of the replacement walls (this one is for the one on the far right) which I have built with less windows in the second picture:
That’s it for this week. Enjoy!

Changing topics (and approach), I ran my RailScope engine......
RailScope, a new idea by Lionel (circa 1989).....but, an idea that was way beyond the available technology at the time. I just run it as a dual can-motored conventional engine, with an attractive paint scheme.....and, I ran it with a RailSounds 1 New York Central diesel box car.......for a complete "early 90s" feel.......
Have a great and safe weekend, everyone!

Last week, I posted a video of an Amtrak Acela train running through Milford, Connecticut. This week, it’s just a model of Amtrak P42 Genesis locomotive #64 pulling two commuter cars of the Connecticut Department of Transportation – Noah Webster and Fairfield County. At one time, trains with Genesis engines and commuter cars like these ran on the Metro-North Waterbury branch in Connecticut – an interesting and scenic train ride. Similar cars are still in operation.
The locomotive is an MTH Premier model (20-2189-1) with PS1 delivered in 1998 at MSRP $329.95. The passenger car models are Atlas O commuter coaches produced in 2008 at MSRP $109.85. I used these 21-inch scale-length cars to establish scenery clearances on the Atlas O-54 curves of my 10’-by-5’ layout. The video shows how close the clearances are as the cars exit the tunnel. I hadn’t run this engine and cars for a long time, so this was something of a test run.

I spent last week in Chicago, so I didn't get much done, but I did stop at Menards and pick up a building for my new lumber yard extension and a few flat cars.
Sticking with the Chicago theme, I threw on a pair of GP20s to pull some freight
Bicentennial decorated Bangor and Aroostook GP9 8665 is seen leading a mixed freight past a hobo camp -
full house at the coal mine -
Gave one of my favorite sets some track time this week - Fallen Flags set #1 - The Wabash from 1986
1973's Golden State Arrow set -
NEW YORK CENTRAL USRA Light Mikado # 5136 waits in the hole with the local freight while NEW YORK CENTRAL J1e #5344 highballs down the main with the Produce Special.
The J1e has been displaced from passenger service by the recently added NIAGRAS—but is happy to serve in it’s new assignment.
The USRA Mikado and the J1e are by MTH. The boxcars and reefers are by Atlas. Bringing up the rear on both trains are NYC wooden caboose recently issued by MTH and JR JUNCTION.

Deer Season on the Copper Range...
@Putnam Division posted:
Love that engine, Pete. I was given one for Christmas and it's getting significant layout time, running primarily with the bluetooth and app.
Took this one many years ago. Forgot I had it until I stumble across it looking for a different video.

Here are a few memories of the mountain I built about eight years ago and took down about three years ago - great fun while it lasted:

Nice consist you’ve created there. I have the same engines. Hard to believe they were produced so long ago and were so cheap at least by today’s standards. Of course no command control in them in those days

The Jewel T circus set consisted of the 1250 engine, tender, a Jewel T lion car, a Jewel T elephant car and caboose.
