Here is a more recent project from the club's resident scratch builder. The is a wood vinegar tank car. Wood was used as it is more resistant to the acid in vinegar than steel. For the model, the tank is wood, and except for the trucks and couplers, everything else is plastic. Only the trucks and couplers are not scratch built. This would be a great addition to my NYO&W freight train!

Happy Friday!

Was able to get a good amount of stuff done this week. Finished the corner near the water tower & put up the benchwork for the passenger terminal extension. Brought some of the shelves down below the new board, which will be used to store the passenger trains. Had to rip out the road on the main board. I added another station platform on the main board for the anticipated increase in passenger service. I reconfigured the road as well. There's a temp. board over the window until I decided what type of bridge to put in there.

My newest find. An e-bay  CP snow plow to go with my "Canadian town". The idea was anchored by the operating "Maiden Rescue" and expanded into a small village. We lived in Buffalo,NY for many years and "Loved" Canada. I am still disappointed when we don't sing the "second verse - O Canada" of our national anthem at sporting events in southern PA!! (All the events along the border in both the USDSC02849 and Canada would sing both National anthems.)

Some questions for you Patrick..........

What brand of dockside is that?   It seems to be your favorite.

And what brand are the trailers we see?

Thanks,

Lou N

Great pics this week!!

The Lackawanna Hudson was having issues pulling the troublesome trucks....

But, after a brief inspection everything was all better!

Love these shots, the Lionchief Lackawanna Hudson and Lionchief New York Central Mikado heading around the bend.

And of coarse we worked on the layout a little.....

Lou - the dockside is an MTH that I weathered.  The short trailers ( Fruhauf sp? )  .... Union Pacific, Pennsy, and NYC, are all Lionel.  The longer 35 foot ( B&O ) trailers are all Weavers.

IMG_2590This picture is like a present that needs to be unwrapped. At first it doesn't look like much of anything, but zoom way in and see the surprise next to the Amtrak loco. This gem is parked in the yard just south of Chicago Union Station today!!!

Seen that view many times from the Cardinal and SWC but can't see the gem....

Click on the picture at the bottom of the post under attachments and you will see it . Think you will like it. I sure did.

The QA&P never had a 50' express boxcar, but if they did it would probably look similar to this Pecos River Brass DD boxcar.  It takes a steady hand, good eyesight, and patience to put these kits together...I struggle with all three.

I feel like I goofed on the decal work.  If I ever build another one I won't put decal work behind the side ladders.

Sorry it's not that clear, but if you zoom in on the photo you will see one of the observation domes from the original California Zephyr. Taking a quick pic from a moving train with tinted glass at a long distance doesn't make for the best quality!

That could be "Silver Solarium", but I can't tell for sure.
