On my way out to Lilypons Water Gardens this morning to pick up pond supplies, I took a short detour to the Point of Rocks B&O Station, what I believe is one of the most beautiful stations in the world. Unfortunately the lousy weather didn't help and no trains came by during my short time, just solid red signals to be seen.

Looking forward is the line west to Brunswick, Harpers Ferry, and west. Left is the Metropolitan Branch to Washington, right is the Old Main Line to Baltimore (and spur to Frederick).

Off the trains, Lilypons is an equally beautiful place (when the weather is nice!!!) - hundreds of acres of Waterlilies and koi ponds as far as the eye can see! In years past, a basic yet well done Garden Railroad was set up around one of the hundreds of display ponds but gradually began to be disassembled over the years and today, you'd never know it existed.

Also, in the store, on the wall are various old photos of B&O steam trains arriving at the closest station (either Point of Rocks or Dickerson, depends on who you ask!) arriving with shipments of goldfish, plants, etc. Cool stuff!

My own little slice of pond, actually one of two on my property, last summer before the plants got their usual mid-season trimming.

There's a surprising amount of detail in these more-recent Weaver cars, and a little bit of weathering seems to bring it out!  And best of all, they don't break the bank!

I'm glad to hear that.  I haven't looked at Weaver box cars in years because the earlier cars had less detail.  I sure am glad you posted your pictures.  They have a good price point and I will be on the lookout in the future.  Although what you call a little bit of weathering, is way more than I've yet to do.  For my taste, your weathering is perfect for the era I model.  Great work.

Great photos again, as always.

Here are some pics of some scrap metal loads I'm experimenting with. Most of the material is real metal, with some plastic items that I thought would fit in. Almost everything is in its natural state. Some of the piping is solid rod, so I drilled part way into the ends, and misted with red oxide primer to give the appearance of hollow pipe.

I collected much of the material in the woods behind the house, some from my workshop, and the rest from work.

Springs from ball point pens make great coil springs when cut into short sections. I took an old band saw blade and cut it into narrow strips, and formed them into broken circles to replicate industrial band saw blades. One of the down spouts on our maintenance/ warehouse was rotted, so I cut it into sections to look like old steel wall panels. The tubs are fence post caps choked with a paper towel, and topped with band saw cuttings. I'm not sure if they're too big though; there is a size smaller, but these were close at hand.

Now, every time I look at something old and rusted, or mechanical, I imagine possible uses for scrap loads.

Here's a few new pieces I received this week.

This beauty is a Weaver 2 rail O scale Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation undecorated.  I plan on going B&O with this model.   This is new old stock from 2007.  What's nice about this model is that the center drivers are blind.

Next up I have an Aristo-craft G scale U.S.Army covered gondola.

011

And a few G scale U.S.Army engines.  First, a USA Trains GP38-2.

006

Next a G scale USA Trains GP-7.

005

And finally a G scale Aristo-Craft U25B.

007

And this is why I will not be going to York this month.  I blew all my cash on these trains.

"It would look SPECTATCULER on the point of the El Capitan."

Jim, can't wait for 3rd Rail to release the Yellow Warbonnet F7's that are going on the point of my El Capitan. I love the red, but, yellow is my favorite color. The ABBA combo should make a pretty picture as well.

Mikki - I always thought that the Lionel Heritage Series was one of the better things Lionel produced.  It's too bad that they didn't continue with some of the earliest engines like the Tom Thumb.

I think its great you were creative enough to build you layout starting with a door found at your curb and go on to using it as a holiday display in Bordentown, NJ.  Good job, nice layout!

I totally agree.  Just made it my wall-paper.  It would look SPECTATCULER on the point of the El Capitan.

Santa Fe Jim - Now, you can do that now can't you.

That is the finest setting in which I've seen Lionel F3's, but Laidoffsick knows how much I admire his layout.

Thanks Howard,  I have been following the forum on and off for a few years now as I work on my basement layout which is still a world of pink foam. In the meantime I experiment with scenic ideas on the Holiday show layouts. This is just the small one to show off what I agree is a very nice train by Lionel. Because of it's small size I went with the 027 track which of course fit the door. I used some small o scale buildings in the foreground (waterfront area of Bordentown) and used HO on the rise of the town itself. It allowed me to fit a lot in a small space. I was originally just planning a static diorama since I only had a small corner of the room left to work with. My much larger layout takes up the rest.

I'm still trying to figure out the posting of pics and replies. I've just started so please excuse the clumsiness.DSCN0509

Mikki I think I met you this past year at the Bordentown holiday train showing. I talked with you about you layout , Bordentown and the John Bull. I was with my young Nephew (4) Who lives in New Egypt. We won a door prize of a die cast toy truck, he was so happy about that one.

After we left the show we walked around Bordentown looking for any remains of the C&A. I did not find any or know where to look, and he was so determined. Could there be any way to have a map or postcard with your layout to show to people who would like to find the real site.
