A lot of people leave York Friday afternoon......but, for those of us that stay, there is Friday evening dinner at the Olive Garden....
Finally, my major York purchase.....a Ross transfer table.......this is the 18" version.... I ordered the 27" five track unit.....

OK, finally, I'm back after a 2 month absence due to a home remodeling project!
First, here's a photo of two PRR K4 Pacifics hauling a long passenger train west through the town of Port Royal PA:
And almost a quarter century later, here is a photo of a quartet of EMD four axle units racing with an eastbound trailer train east towards Harrisburg during the daze of Penn Central:
The two K4's are by Lionel and I call that train the "crowd pleaser" since it is the favorite of all the visitors to my layout.
The quartet of PC units is made up of three Lionel GP-30s, the first and last units being stock items from the Lionel catalog a few years ago and the third without the words "Penn Central" lettering being a special run from Mr. Muffins trains...very cool since every unit is painted a little differently. The second unit is an MTH PRR GP-35 dummy unit.
The concrete arch bridge spanning the tracks is a model of the PA Route 75 bridge at Port Royal which is still in use after 110 years. I scratchbuilt it out of sheet styrene with a bit of strip wood from a dollhouse supply retailer being used for a bit of the architectural detail. The curved stone arch bridge was built back in the year 2000 out of 153 pounds of hydrocal plaster and was also completely scratchbuilt.
Enjoy!
Here's one more. This is US 22 in Jacks Narrows looking east near Mt. Union PA. Because of the way it is built, it is very difficult to photograph realistically. I thought I had it finished two months ago, then it struck me that I forgot to include the utility poles which I just added this morning.

A fine looking group, many who I know, or have met over the years. I miss the three day experience; haven't done it in quite some time.
Scott - thanks for getting us started! Peter - thanks for all the York pics! Love your new transfer table
Here are my photos of the fun kind for this fine weekend! Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!
Down at the commuter station ... a Western Maryland train is about to leave for Cumberland, Md. as a B&O set of RDC cars depart for Baltimore.
The Kyle Building ... a Walther's structure given to me by one of my trumpet students .. named Kyle.
View from my cabin window ... Mt. Randolph is a wonderful backdrop to the Bollman bridge. A logging train trundles onto the bridge.
The Patsburg Commuter Station ... folks wait for the next train as a Pennsy set of MU cars traverse the EL.
Williams L&N E units that I bought used many years ago. Foolishly sold off the B unit when someone asked for it but a 3 unit set of scale E units eats up a lot of track! Mine need some work as someone had added PS2 to them including the MTH motors which mesh 'pretty good' with the Williams trucks. Every now and then under a load I hear a 'thunk' which I must assume is a gear jumping. Another project for another day!
As a side note, I bought an AA pair of L&N Legacy E8's when they were introduced because the color appealed to me very much - a brilliant blue and cream but after awhile, it began to look 'artificial' and I sold them and kept these handsome Williams models...
MTH released a pair of Premier line PROCOR OPTIMISER green tank cars recently.
Now Atlas O has a new pair of road numbers for these tank cars in the current PREMIER catalog.
On the real PROCOR tank cars that I have seen occasionally in this scheme, the green looks to be a few shades deeper.

My brother and I have recently moved into a condo that's near the Royal Park Hotel and Rochester Hills Library in Downtown Rochester, MI, and there's still more unpacking to do. Nevertheless, here's my first inaugural run down here in the basement.
Busy Saturday morning with members back at the club after York. One was Murf who picked up LIONEL Northern Pacific F-3 AB units to go with four LIONEL full-length dome cars and four matching custom painted cars. Some raw vid
And some stills:
Dave's LIONEL Legacy W&LE Berkshire:
And Les' MTH NYC GP-30:
Family duties caused me to cut today's visit short; but, Lenny is making good progress on creating a lift bridge for the club's traveling layout with photos next week.

Thanks Dave. The striping is nothing more than 1/16" model aircraft striping I purchased at my local hobby store...yeah, we still have one of those...Hobby Express in Cranberry Township north of Pittsburgh.

Terrific photos guys and a big thank you to Scott for getting things going again this weekend. Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to make it to York, it's on my bucket list of things to do.
I have been a busy little beaver lately, I had the guys that did our kitchen cabinet install come in and build a shelf layout that runs around the room just above the door molding. It turned out way better than I thought it was going to. I knew they would do a really great job but wasn't expecting the way it came out. My room is 12' long and 11' wide and the shelf is made out of 3/4" Birch plywood and on the long runs it is 15 1/2" wide. The wall side of the shelf is anchored to a ledger board and then the front edge is anchored by adjustable (and I'm having a brain freeze/fart whatever you want call it, I can't think of what they are called, dang I hate it when that happens)........ Ah ha, how about Turnbuckle and those are screwed into the ceiling joists. Kinda gives it an industrial look but also serves to keep the outside edge of the layout very taught and I can tighten them up if I feel the need. Chris, one of the guys doing the work, said he could do pull-ups off of the front of the layout and I'm pretty sure he has no doubts about being able to do it either. I was up working on putting in a 50' LED Rope light that goes all the way around the room at the back edge of the layout. They are not super bright and give off a really nice glow. I painted the underside a very light blue to give some color to the drab white room, actually, my lovely wife painted the underside and then she painted the walls a sky blue to which I will use my cloud templates to add some clouds and make even a thunderhead if i can work it in. I'm even giving consideration to adding some clouds to the underside also. The clouds will be done with an airbrush and will be done with Acrylics.
My track work will be Atlas and the front mainline will be 0-72 and the back will be either 0-80 or 0-96 (if I can find it). I plan on having two crossovers, both will use Gargraves switches, as I plan on using the front main for loading and unloading my rolling stock. I haven't decided if I will run my big articulated engines up there as they are really heavy (to me anyway) to lift up there and fiddle with trying to put them on the track.
I will be using my new ZW-L as the power source and I will be able to run conventional, TMCC, Legacy and also MTH DCS. I will first need to build my power panel for mounting all of the different components and have already had the guys set up a couple of boxes that will allow me to run my cables up thru the AC return up to the top of the layout.
I do plan on trying to finish off the layout with ground cover and adding trees and bushes, maybe even some mountains (carved styrofoam, nothing fancy) and various building as I want to be able to take photographs of the layout.
I'm really looking forward to my first run but that will probably be a while. I'm going to have to experiment to see what will be the best underlayment for the roadbed so as to what will be the best sound deadening features. If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep, then i'm sure I'll be in my room running my trains and i don't want to wake up my better half so I'll be looking a a few different materials. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll be more than happy to hear them for consideration.
So here are a few pics of the start of a new type of layout, for me anyway and I'll update them as I make progress.
This is my first Weekend Photo Fun in a long time (if not ever!)
Here are some pics from the layout I've been working on, which is currently down for a quick move to another part of the basement.
This is the MTH Railking GG1 beer train from circa 2007. I've added a few additional beer reefers and actually have a few more that are in storage I should add.
GG1 meeting a B&O passenger train (both Railking)
Here is the B&O RDC Budd car set I picked up from the MTH auction for a steal IMO. Runs great out of the box! In the yard, I have my Kuhn era NH passenger set (the full vista dome has a short that I need to fix)
Great to see some of the York crew out eating, wish I could have been there. Great pics all.
