My photos and videos for this weekend show two models of G5s 4-6-0 ten-wheeler steam locomotives made by MTH in the liveries of the Pennsylvania Railroad (1999) and its subsidiary, the Long Island Rail Road (2001). I bought duplicate copies of both of these models and have been running them, equipped with BCRs, on my layouts for almost 25 years. They have great steam sounds, especially when running fast, and are among my favorites.

I always keep LIRR #21 and its K-Line passenger cars on my 12’-by-8’ layout. The blue-scheme cars are painted for the “Cannonball,” a train that ran to the eastern end of Long Island.

Since G5s locomotive #5741 also ran on Long Island in PRR livery, I sometimes run #5740 and #21 together – as I did this week. Photos and videos show #5740 with heavyweight LIRR passenger cars.

Isn't it interesting that you think a scene is pretty much done until you post a picture somewhere and then you see all the little things that you missed?  I'm thinking that this should be an integral part of my modeling in the future to take pictures and study them for errors and omissions.

Last weekend, we finished up at the Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum……two weekends and we were told that the attendance for the two weekends was about 2300. It was a lot of fun. I ran Saturday and Sunday last weekend…..I’ll divide the pics up into tow groups…..

Saturday, the 27th:

These are ABA New Haven C-Liners from MTH with PS3. What makes them special is that I bought them from Vince’s Trains and I’m told they were part of TrainPop’s collection.

It is late 1949 and a G5 is leading a short commuter made up of a PB70 and a P70.  The PB70 is carrying freight to a small town that does not have regular service.  Johnny, a newly assigned fireman to this run, is constantly complaining about the rough ride of the old G5.  Joseph, the engineer, told him he needs to bring a thick cushion the next time.  Joseph likes these commuter runs in this engine.  It is dependable and accelerates and stops quickly, making the run shorter than using one of the new diesels.  Plus, these commuter runs allows him to be home with his family almost every night.

@MELGAR Thanks for posting your very nice G5s on your great layout.  Got me thinking that I have not run my MTH G5 in a while, so I dug it out to pull this short commuter.  The cars are Sunset/GGD.
