Starting early so I can attempt to sleep in tomorrow morning...we will see if that's going to work.

I got the clubs #42 engine back from being repaired. We had several old trains donated to the club. None of them worked. Now that they have been repaired it's time to cosmetically restore them. Do you this one needs some paint?

MTH #10 Set
I really like the MTH 10E sets. I have three of them.

I have several left to collect; the Green Set, Hiawatha Set and the Christmas set.  They were a good value when MTH sold them new. For $600.00 you got the track, transformer, engine and 3 passenger cars. I have paid as little as $340.00 for a used 10E set.
You can see the Orange 10E set as well as the 110 year old #42 engine in my video.

Open house at the Roanoke Valley Model Railroad Club next Saturday September 10th. 10:00-3:00 We are located in the basement of the Virginia Of Transportation. The entrance is around back past the rocket.

Scott, you should sleep in on my birthday. Dave

Happy Birthday Dave!

Monday I had to make a trip to Atlanta and back (over 900 miles.) Today I worked in Tennessee (500 miles) I have an appointment an hour from here tomorrow afternoon. I have had to get up early to get these trips in and it has caught up with me.20220816_195446[0)

I see the thread is starting early, so here are just two pics showing my progress on the skewed stone arch bridge near Spruce Creek PA, which I've been posting images of every few weeks. While it still has a ways to go, the end is in sight for completion of this scene. Top photo is the prototype showing the local road passing under the bridge, and the bottom image is the model showing the road and gravel shoulders which I just installed over the past few days. Trees, guardrails, signs, and weathering of the concrete reinforcement are next on the list.

A big week for us, the Chesterfield County Fair. Fellows in the group started helping out in 2008 by helping the group from Crewe and Blackstone with an O gauge layout at the Fair. We organized in 2009 and by 2010 we started bringing our newly built modular layout.

There are still two more days to go……

Here is the picture I had originally planned to post this week (got side tracked by the stone arch bridge photos above). Here we see a pair of switchers hauling a work train on the newly created Penn Central back in 1968:

And here's another view of the same train showing the old PRR company house in the town of Mifflin in the background:

I also wanted to repost these two images from last week. I received some nice feedback about the model that I had built and questions as to how I modeled it, so here once more are the pictures of a prototype, the model, and how I created it:

IMG_8180IMG_9109

The corrugated pipe was from some basement manufacturer who I believe is long gone. I looked for the package to get the name, but either I can't find it or it is all gone. I'd look at some O or HO suppliers of scratch building material or just go with the white (thin walled) ABS evergreen or Plastruct tubing instead.
I just poked a hole in the pink foam scenery base with a screwdriver and inserted the pipe. Next I took a piece of .010 or .015 brass wire, bent it into an upside down "L" and shoved it vertically into the foam and inserted the other end in the pipe.  I then cut a tine piece of scotch tape into the shape of a very narrow "V" and attached it to the vertical part of the L with the wide part at the top. I may have secured it with some superglue. Next, I dripped Woodland Scenics "Realistic Water" off of a tooth pick down the scotch tape about 4 to 6 times, letting it harden between each application so it would build up. I also flicked some into the pipe so it looked like water was running out of it and did this multiple times as well so it would build up.
Thanks to all of you who commented on the pipe model.

Arnold - Nice acquisition you got there from Malcolm!   Perhaps you could bring the Dodgers back to Brooklyn now? Of course you'd have to replace the Wrigley Field Chicago Cubs sign   With three stadiums you could have Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers all playing games on your layout daily.

Dept 56 made an Ebbets Field, but it's pricey now in the secondary market.

When the new CSOR shop was built at the Hartford yard, former New Haven hump yard. The old sand tower had to come down. The guy doing the HVAC wanted to save it from being scraped. Fast foward to last week, we headed to said guys house to check out the tower. I went two years ago to see the tower and check if it was workable. Our sand tower is horrible takes about 4 hours to sand ones side. Now your probable asking why did this guy want our sand tower. Ive never seen a collection like this before. To top it all off he also does O scale. That day my coworker, manager, VP of mechanical northeast region and myself got the full tour. We spent 4 hours viewing this collection.
