This week, I have a couple panoramic shots of my pair of recently released Lionel PRR L-1 Mikados. They are painted too green and have a gearing issue, but when running properly as a lash up they smoke like crazy and sound great. In the upper picture, the pair is passing eastbound through Port Royal and is passing a mixed freight pulled by my Legacy Class J Texas. In the second shot, they can be seen going around the broadest curve on my layout with a radius of 156" (that's O-312!) pulling a coal drag consisting primarily of Atlas H-21's and Lionel GLA coal hoppers.
The final images shows the rear of the train as it slowly pulls into Enola Yard under the "Iron Bridge," a favorite of railfans.
That's it for this week! Enjoy!
Wow Scott - you sure get around!
Like I said last week here, I am out of unused 2022 Christmas Layout images. For 2023 I am planning on having a drive-in scene. Not a new scene for me. Here are some images of the drive-in scenes from the first 2 years that I created one:
2010 - the first year that I had one
2011 - 2nd year to have one
This was the year that Miller brought out his drive-in animated sign. I chose the Gone With The Wind one because my sister (may she rest in peace) was a leading expert on both the book and the movie at that time. I also built a wooden fence as fences always surounded drive-ins back then
This closeup shows the sign along with the DVD player which was showing the movie

Thanks Scott for getting us started for this fine weekend! Here are my photo of the fun kind! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
A Pennsy passenger train rolls through Patsburg at dusk.
Smith Brothers Automobiles ... your go to dealer for Tuckers, Studebakers, and Volkwagons is having a big fall sale ... so come on down and let Smith Brothers put you in a new automobile today!!
An Alpha Jet freight train with Reading and Western Maryland power rolls through town.
Neal, did you hand lay that curve?
Trainbros, that's a real interesting building. What's the origin?
Patrick another beautiful fall day on the railroad.
This past weekend, my club did a 2-day RR festival in Derry, PA (Derry Railroad Days). Our layout was smaller this year due to work going on inside the bulding. Here are some pix and video:
Finally acquired a 1:43 "General Lee" to flesh out my "Dukes of Hazzard" scene. Now if I can only find a Boss Hogg Cadillac...
MTH did these RailKing gondolas a long time ago (cover added later). We love this paint scheme and wish they'd re-run it (with the cover), or even do a Premier version (with the cover). A number of us would buy it, and one of us would buy multiples.
The Derry Historical Society owns this cabin car and caboose. The Conrail caboose houses their gift shop (only open for RR Days and maybe some other community events).
The town straddles the NS mainline, so there is a lot of opportunity for train-watching during this festival.
Finally, here is the video of the trains we were running, plus a little real RR video:

We have another big weekend work of sessions scheduled on our signal system installation. Here is a picture after last week's session. These two passenger trains had to be moved out of Union Station to allow room to install signals on the upper line. The signals change at the signal bridge, but the trains weren't backed up far enough to clear the red signals on each of the tracks as they were occupied. The far right track mainline shows a clear green aspect.
Here is a link to the thread if you want to follow our signal project:

No, that's all Atlas flex track installed 20 years ago!
Lionel Legacy L1 meets a Lionel TMCC J1 on the tracks today! The L1 is definitely going to get weathered soon.
Late to the party.....I was in Gettysburg today.......
CSX in the famous railroad cut from the 1st day of the battle which is west of town along the Cashtown Pike....
Amtrak making a 1st appearance on the new layout......
Have a great and safe weeknd, everyone!
Peter
Thanks Neal.
The Pennsy GS4 is lost in the yard.
The GE Switcher 400hp (44-tonner) is WbB. Most cars are either Atlas or Williams.
Short video of my C-9 226E pulling a set of C-9 610 610 612 Green passenger cars. The tinplate layout is only 6’6” square; so hence the short video.
Getting ready to run some Santa Fe...
Only on the Original Photo Thread...
On the left we have the 2010 cataloged Postwar Inspired Scale Santa FE F3 A-B-B-A. Powered A, 2 powered Bs, and a Dummy A.
On the right we have the Santa Fe Scale F3s from 2017. A-B-B-A. Powered A-B, Super Base B, Dummy A. Both are Legacy and with an A-B-B-A setup make for a spectacular train.

I love tin-plate and short videos. Thanks for showing both!

2 beautiful sets Marty! Before I sold off my collection I too had the Warbonnet ABBA arrangement pulling 8 passenger cars. It was my favorite train.

I have a Minié ball I found in the cut there on my last visit to Gettysburg, for an Army officer 'staff ride' many years ago.
A rock tumbled down to the ballast while we stood there discussing day one of the battle. I don't know why but I went over and looked and the unspent round was part of the dirt clod with it. Naturally I didn't tell anyone at the time as you're supposed to report such things. But I couldn't imagine what the NPS could gain from an unspent rifle round, so now it sits in my display case in my train room, accompanied with shots glasses from various railroad museums and small vials filled with beach sand from the invasion landing beaches at Normandy.
Is Gilbert's Hobbies still there? That's the very first 'real' model train store I ever saw, in 1981 back when it was on Steinwehr (ironically, I went to that very storefront in 1998 and it was a civil war re-enactor uniform store). The last time I was in the area, it as on the north end of town, near the old railroad station. I hope it's still in operation.

It’s still around but in a different location 346 E Water St. I haven’t been there in years.

It's strictly an HO shop now. The only O scale shop is Carvers which is on RT 30 just before Seminary Ridge on the left and the RR Wye on the right behind the college football stadium. My great-great grandfather and his future brother-in-law both fought at the battle and have their names recorded on the PA Monument:

Thank you, Greg……
See you in a few weeks?

Hi Peter,
It's doubtful I make it to York. I'm presently battling Covid and even though I'm fully vaxxed it's been a bit rough. While I hope to be able to return to work by mid-week next week I've had to use a week's worth of PTO I didn't really have to use with other things planned. It's my son's senior year of college so this year's concerts and performances are most likely the last time my wife and I will get to see him play/perform in a full "professional" type setting.
Next fall is most likely my next trip. It stinks but it could be a lot worse.
I certainly wish you and everyone else who's going all the best and hope you have a great time!
