Don't get me wrong; I love this shot and the model work, but how could a RR use an ash pit that close to the concrete buffer? Only a tank engine could get the firebox that close to dump the ashes...

Sorry, but I kept staring at the shot and wondering about this.

Lee: Thanks for the comment. Yes you are right, but our plan is use only small steam engines here.

Merry Christmas to all, and thank you to everyone on the forum for all of the inspiration and assistance over the past year!

Getting close to finishing up this Downtown Deco build.  It was Bingo's Pool Hall.  It is going to be a little hardware store for my downtown area.  I have not attached the sign to the large green area quite yet - maybe this am before we have to take the kiddo out on Christmas Eve festivities...lol

I cant believe how many fine pictures today. Thanks so much everybody!!!

I think I'll give some of you a chuckle . I'm planning to attend here tomorrow:

sacto cathedral

Well.... yesterday during a slow time at work, I started thinking, "wouldn't it be nice to model a façade of this building for my layout?"

When I figured it out, the 215 foot spire would be 54" tall. Too tall for the ceiling in my room! If I could even manage a convincing model, it would dominate that entire corner of the room. I also cant bring myself to run trains right at the front steps.

SO, I'm going to leave this building with the dignity it deserves, and visit it in Sacramento whenever I can....

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

When we set our Christmas village up, it gives me a chance to run the postwar sets I've put back together as my layout is all TMCC, so cannot run postwar on it.  Each set gets about a two or three day run until Christmas Eve.  At that time, I put my original 1948 Lionel 2026 set for its run of honor today and tomorrow.  The memories are still sweet.

I hope you all have equally great ones of your first train set!

Here is the set running this morning (no it is not a real Jersey Central, but I did get a nice price on it at York in October.  Maybe someday)

And here is my 2026 set carrying a load of memories!

Sixty years ago I woke up Christmas morning and found a 4x6 layout featuring Lionel's brand new New Haven EP-5 in our living room. A few Plasticville buildings and some Tootsietoy cars and trucks completed the small village.

In later years my dad told me how he bought the train only to get it all set up and find out the transformer had no whistle control. A last minute drive Christmas Eve to exchange it for a Lionel ZW and everything was set. My mother even sewed some material together and stuffed it with cotton to make feed sacks for one of the trucks.

Each year thereafter, a new operating car appeared on the layout Christmas morning. Eventually, another locomotive was needed and the famous Lionel Berkshire #736 was added to the roster.

Thanks Mom & Dad!

JDStucks:

I love those scenes.  What material(s) are you using for those roads?

Thanks.

Steven: In the top picture I used sheets of cork that I simply painted flat Black. I really like this method because I can easily cut it and shape it. Plus the texture is very realistic. In the last two pictures I used sheets of masonite, traced and cut the shape with a saw, and also painted flat black. Both methods turned out decently but I'd prefer doing cork again.

Well another Christmas has come and gone and what eye candy to behold. Not going to lie, like pretty much everything posted this weekend. What sticks out to me were all the smiles on the kids faces. So my finger is numb, my stomach full, and for a moment I thought I had broke my mouse. So Hope everyone had a great Christmas.     Here is my contribution A little polar express action brought to you by Drone Cam.

Had to do a music edit due to White Christmas being blocked in 244 countries So here is edited version with Andrews Sister and Winter wonderland.  If you cant see the above one
