I will be at the Western Maryland Scenic to photograph the 734.  It is her last year under steam for the time being and I didn't want to miss the action.  It is my 1st time being there.

You guys have all given great advice on where to be when shooting.  I just wanted to extend the offer one more time for anyone who wants to meet up and shoot this beautiful locomotive.  I know it is fathers day, but its my only chance to get out to her this summer as I live in Michigan.  I am currently staying in NJ on vacation and am making the 4.5 hour drive very early that morning.  I am planning to be there at 9am.

Here are my plans for the shots.  I am going to shoot it coming into the station as they'll pull through, head out 40 to the narrows just before 40 crosses the canal. Drive to Dakota ave grade crossing, Cash Valley rd Crossing, and beat her to Frostburg to shoot her entering the table.  I am then I am booking it to the tunnel for the south trip as soon as she hits the turntable to hike it in and get shots of her exiting the tunnel.

So if anyone here wants to meet up, and join me for the ride and some rain fanning let me know.  I can drive the chase.

email me at jdevleerjr@gmail.com or trainphotography.net@gmail.com if you want to join me.

1. The "canal" in the Narrows is actually Wills Creek which is contained by flood control walls.

2. Skip Dakota Ave. and go straight for Cash Valley, You may get caught by a traffic light under the truss bridge and the local speed limits are between 25-40 mph the whole way there.

3. It is just over 1 mile from the parking lot at Cash Valley to the east portal of Brush tunnel, you will probably need to hustle once you leave Frostburg.
4. I rode the diesel 3 weeks ago, and they do come downhill faster than going up, but they make plenty of noise approaching the tunnel.

Given the number of threads concerning the WMSR, C&O 1309(last update by WMSR management 6/15/15;5:03 p,m.)on this forum, plus the official explanation available via wmsr.com web site, you are kidding, right?

Have you been living in a cave for the past year +? It is well know that WMSR's 734 2-8-0 is being "retired" until the 1472 Service inspection/overhaul/rebuild can be completed, which will be many years in the future until it runs again. Meanwhile, the WMSR is actively rebuilding the C&O 2-6-6-2 it pulled out of the B&O Museum a year or so ago.

Agree with Borden Tunnel. Skip Dakota Ave, go right to Helmstetter's after the

Narrows.

You will have time to watch the engine turned and back up and couple to her train. That takes about fifteen minutes or so, done at about 20 after 1pm.

The train will leave at 2pm, you will have plenty of time to get back to Helmstetter's and walk up to the tunnel.

Where is the best place to park for the walk to the tunnel?   I have never been to the WMSR and don't want to miss the shot.

Also when does the locomotive arrive at the station in the morning?  Is there access to be able to photograph her before the trip?  What about the hands on event?  She run in an area where she can be shot?

Jim

I would park at the Cash Valley RR crossing, and walk up the trail to the tunnel. As I recall, it took me about 20 minutes to get to the tunnel. There is a parking area for

the trail right at the crossing. The train leaves the Cumberland Station at 11:30, and they come over from the shop at 11:00.

Are you going to shoot stills or video?

Unfortunately with it being fathers day I think it is hard for anyone to get away to do a non family trip.   I would love to have had a tour and thank you very much for the offer.
