Folks,

Here is the latest endeavor of Master Artist Gary Schrader. An O scale Westside Triplex that was re-powered with three Cockerham motors and super detailed by Gary. Painting was done by a third artist. The whole project was commissioned by a wealthy collector. Enjoy.... It does not get better than this...

Actually Baldwin would have delivered it to the D&RG, and the green jackets didn't appear on Grande power until the late twenties, so this model would represent the "prototype's" appearance after about 10-15 years, I think.

I personally would have difficulty accepting the choice of road number and class [ Didn't the DRGW keep the D&RG's classes for existing power, and just use the L series for the new purchases ? ] -- but:  It's not my model.

It certainly is nice looking.

Best, SZ

Edited to add:  Hmmmm -- Isn't that a roller bearing on the leading axle ?  Maybe this is the late thirties appearance -- or what it looked like after dieselization and Burnham polished it up for the donation to the CRM.

This is a beautiful model, even if it is a fantasy.  I had the Westside triplex 20 years ago, and it was a mechanical nightmare.  Pieces became unsoldered, there were insulation problems, and the highly touted Canon coreless motors were inoperable after a brief running session. I eventually traded this for something else.  To redo this model and have it running is truly an accomplishment and Gary Schrader would be the logical one to do it.  In my opinion 2-rail does get better, for I saw a Lobaugh Cab forward repowered by Stu Kleinschmidt on You Tube on an S.P. model layout.  This, to me is the best of 2-rail!!
