The World's Greatest Hobby on Tour show is coming to a nearby venue next week - is it worth attending for someone already involved in the hobby, or is it more of a show-n-tell about the hobby?
I've attended it the few times it came to New Jersey. There were manufacturers exhibits, plenty of operating layouts and it featured many dealers not normally seen at shows in this area so spending money wasn't a problem. I enjoyed the shows thoroughly and I've been in this hobby for a very long time.
Worth it in my book. Be prepared for CROWDS! Last time we had the WGH show, 4 years ago, over 40K people came through. I was with the National Capital Trackers, and it was impossible to get anywhere near our layout during the show - about 6-8 deep all around. HUGE crowds.
Very much worth it, IMHO. A good show for both the seasoned hobbyist as well as newcomers. I guess it could be sort of like a York on tour since you tend to have all the major players with booths, only difference is that it covers all scales and not just O.
i attended the one in cleveland ohio at the ix center a few years back. for me, after paying about $20 for parking and admission ,it was a ripoff for me. i will never go to another one. if you are taking people/ kids that are new to the hobby ,there is no better way to get em' interested in trains. these shows are aimed towards the general pubic, which our hobby badly needs....-jim
