While ORG, IMO, is an enlightening and helpful forum, has thought ever been given to adding a chat room feature to make it even more superb for its users? Is such a feature doable? What are you forumites thoughts on this?

ehh...its not like this forum is so busy. Might cut into forum traffic.
Plus then some information/solutions might not be public.
Hoopla does support a chat feature - but might increase costs to deploy.
I don't care one way or another - but it's not something I'm going to use.
I'm not interested in what you had for breakfast or the weather in Podunk. I've seen a few forum "chat rooms". In fact, just look at the CTT forum ongoing "coffee pot" thread.
The moderators have enough to do.
Don't need a chat room. You can express your polite opinion any place on this forum.
No.
Personally I would enjoy a chatroom but also I feel as if the moderators of this forum already have enough work, thanks to some less than polite members here. It would be cool, but probably not worth it.
No.
Not interested and probably would not use.
There's no "O Gauge" IRC chatroom?
I wouldn't use it personally ...
In the long past, the forum moderators let a Friday night chat announcement that was hosted on an independent chat room be posted. It was not part of the forum or OGR but they did allow for a link and an announcement. I think that may be the best you'll get.
No
NO!!!

Bad idea.
How could a chat room be moderated?
I think an unmoderated chat room would poison the board.
Isn't the forum basically a chat room ? Personally, I have enough to do just keeping up with this and other forums I belong to. I suspect that if you want to start private conversations, group emailing would be your next best option.

No, it is not.

I agree.
The stated purpose of this forum is to exchange ideas about model trains on an open forum platform.
Chat Rooms, by their very nature, are high maintenance and high moderator workload. One of our moderators would have to monitor the Chat Room every time it was used. We simply don't have staff that could do that.
