Though most people here scoff that "collecting is dead", I picked up the TCA Museum's 40th anniversary car yesterday during open house.

I know going in that I will never be able to get what I bought it for if I were to try to sell it (not my intent), but it's a nice looking car and I am glad I bought it.

I think I read somewhere here that there were only 40 made(though I can't find that post in a search right now- so I may have imagined it or it may have been a casual mention in a thread that got deleted for other reasons), but there was at least one left at the end of the day yesterday, I believe.   The display unit at the register was still there when I left around 5 and there may have been others (I did not ask, and it was one per member anyway).

What did you buy at York? Did you find any great deals or items you have been searching for?

I bought three engines so far, none of which I had previously thought of getting.  A Milwaukee GP9 boxed, tmcc for $50, a boxed SF SD-18 for $50, and an older LN Cab forward for $250.

And you also, apparently, invented a time machine so that you could fast-forward, buy the locomotives, return to the present, and make this post.

I'm reading this right now at 8:33 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday, April 27, 2017.  The Eastern Division meet doesn't open until Noon today.  How did you do that "7 hours ago" as the post says?

Pretty impressive there, Jules.

I received an Email from the TCA on 4/13 that said there would only be 40 cars available for sale. It didn't say how many were actually made. There may have been more made for the TCA archives and to replace defective cars.

Ahh... it might have been that same email that I was remembering (in Outlook on another PC).

Bandit meets. They are held in York too.

"Never mind".  LOL.

OK, I went to the bandit meets as well.  I thought the thread was in reference to the Eastern Division meet.  My bad.

Sorry, I didn't specify the date.  I consider the whole week, Monday to Saturday, as York.  The tmcc engine was Tuesday night about 8pm at the Billy budd.  The 8872 was on Wednesday afternoon about 2pm, the cab forward was Wednesday about noon.   Both at the Wyndham parking lot.

Me too, even though I have never made it to the bandit meets but after reading your post it's definitely something I would like to do in the future.

I bought a 385w Gun Metal Gray tender for my engine. I bought a #512 Hopper car (green) and #812 O Gauge caboose. Also grabbed several JR bridge 401 signal bridges to build one complete one from them. One even came with the original box.

I picked up a Marx search light tower without the light. I want to use this tower to mount a WiFi camera that I will use on a lower level of my layout to display on the TV screen.

I attended several bandit meets and managed the Silver/Blue and Orange halls on Thursday. Will return tomorrow to visit the Purple/White/Red halls and check out the Black Hall layouts.

I bought a NOS Williams FM with a broken truck side frame and four colber bubbling towers.  2 were water towers and two were oil derricks (oil gushers according to Colber).   The guy guaranteed them not to work.  I kept thinking he was guaranteeing them to work.  The tubes all had fluid in them so hopefully I can get some of them to work.

I went today (Friday), although I usually go on Thursday. I hit the Orange Hall at 8:45 because I had to use the restroom after my 2 hour drive. I was surprised to see how few people were in the lobby area  waiting for the doors to open. At past meets, the lobby has been packed first thing on Thursday (how was it yesterday?).

In any event, went to the White Hall for the opening because I wanted 3 postwar American Flyer link coupler passenger cars. I found a set of 3 aluminum streamlined ones (660, 662, 663) in truly outstanding condition for $325. The dealer took $300. cash for them. I have no idea what their "worth" is, and don't care. I could not be happier. This took place at 9:20...so the day was young (as well as 82 and sunny). Bought a few minor odds and ends before leaving. Am now looking at my purchase displayed with a 322 Hudson at the front end. I'm a happy camper!

I'd be interested in any comments concerning "the public". I thought maybe I'd see some "HO" size Woodland Scenics ready-built structures in the dealer halls, to sell to the public. Some of these work OK on my "S" layout, but as usual for past Yorks, none were seen by me.

I also thought the attendance was kind of light (in the Orange Hall). It's not that long ago I remember it being much more of a mob scene. I was disappointed with Lionel's booth - I don't understand the evident lack of enthusiasm in their operating display.

O scale ladders @ Crescent Locomotive works 2 for $1

A 36' Woodsided reefer @MTH for $10

10th Anniversary Polar Express coach car @ the LCCA booth for $15

Two lighted MTH Christmas houses @ Graboski's

Another NJHR Club Car (beer reefer)

Got a major Mr Muffin deal. I really don't like admitting in public that I bought a Pevler blue diesel...  but it was such a good deal I couldn't walk away.

An over-the-top PS3 upgrade @ JDS Ltd on my 3rd Rail S2 brass PRR Turbine...

Bargains flying out of the woodwork........

And a Deuce's Bike Shop, NIB for $75, probably from the same vendor.  The "Lego" roller coaster from Coaster Dynamix.

Although it would be difficult to miss them, be sure to check out the two huge brass bridges just inside the door of the blue hall.

Today I found 6 Pennsylvania passenger cars for $90, 2 tanker cars for $30, a Pennsylvania Madison baggage car for $30, WIU from Nicholas Smith for the best price on the fairgrounds $140 as well as my 2nd engine in 2 days the PS3 Alco PA AA set from TrainWorld with a free shipping flyer and code if I order the B unit which is on sale at their website for about $100. I will post pictures in a new post soon. I believe I had an awesome day 2 for a York newbie. And Thanks to Allan Miller for giving me directions in the morning while I was trying to figure out where the OGR forum meeting was to be held and also to those of you I met and spoke with throughout the meet you guys are all awesome.
