Carl, do you already have the pictures on  your computer? If so it nice and easy the way the OGR forum has made it.

No pics today but for sure a good morning and part of the afternoon. I went from working on the layout to working at getting under the stairway cleaned out. Once I did that I took my saws all and cut out the doorway along with a partial wall that was there. Then I gathered up all the things I had to go out to the street for garbage pickup along with the wood from taking out the doorway. To remove the next partition I have to relocate an electrical wire that I will use for overhead lighting. Maybe after dinner I'll tackle that but right now I am going to run some trains as a reward to myself for working hard.....................Paul

Ok Paul, first off I would think you did not cut any supporting members for the stairs! But if you did I am sure your wife will find a way to get to this page to tell us all about! LOL

Second off, are you going to run track under the stairs or is it a place to put more of your future Menards stuff? I cant wait to see some pictures of it!

MIKE G, so far so good. Have not cut a load bearing support yet LOL. Actually I have room for more Menards stuff. My plans all along were to go under the stairs with a single track to eventually go around the basement. But I kept putting this area off. Now I have to move the light switch and light that is in where the 1/2 bath was which I had taken out. And that wire will be used for a shop light in that area. And Mike I am keeping an area for the brewery.....Paul

Very cool Paul! I like to see it when a plan comes together! If Menards ever pulls the trigger on a brewery I too will also be getting one!

well it is 3 AM and I just came up stairs from working on the layout glueing bridge sides on again. I'm getting to the point where I will need help from a young man to climb on top of the layout to glue the rest of the bridge sides on. Today was a good rail day.  I found an auction about a month ago that had tons of Lionel stuff up for bid.  I won several auctions and received all the merchandise today.  Weiss auctions in New York was the auctioneers.  It couldn't have worked out better, literally at a fraction of the cost of buying on ebay or the local shop. 

First item is a 3-38012 Wheeling & Lake Erie 2-6-6-2 Mallet, new still sealed and never out of the original shipping container, absolutely flawless, cost was $360. 

Second was a 6-38049 Norfolk & Western class A Lionmaster 2-6-6-4 same condition as the first item, cost was $500. 

Third item was seven, (7) prewar lionel No. 92 Flood light towers, after cleaning them they will look great, cost was $300.  I love old tinplate.

Finally a Lionel #213 lift bridge and it was also new still sealed in its shipping container and is flawless, cost was $260.  Then had to pay 13% to the auctioneer and $92 for shipping.  All and all I think great deals.

 

After lots of negotiating and $$$$$ spent, my railroad has been reorganized and renamed the Clinch River and Southern, the CRS Line.. I was named CEO and primary (actually only) financial backer.. I will continue to carry on my duties as  Construction Superintendent.. My first purchase was two 180w Lionel Powerhouse Power Supplies from Legacy Station, to update the power grid.. They arrived today and are awaiting installation.. I was chastised for spending some of my children's inheritance by my liberal leaning BOD, Mr. Bentley, Spanky, and Marley Mae.. They were appeased, however, by the assurances that their food, treats, grooming, vet bills, Heartgard, NexGard etc will still be fully funded by said CEO and that no actual work would be required of them.. Buried somewhere in the agreement, I have yet to read it completely, the Tropical Fish and Honey Bees are well cared for as well.. The Honey Bees will still be required to work themselves to death without guarantee of honey production.. Honey sales help fund BOD decisions for future expenditures...

Here's all that's left of the original.  I managed to re-purpose a few pieces of rock wall from the original.

The upper tunnel has a top that fitted into the previous scenery.

I made a new piece of styrofoam to match up to the old. Just raw styrofoam in this photo, yet to be carved.

The backside has a lot of Pennsy Wall but will also get a nice scale, realistic tunnel portal. The white styrofoam below will be carved into an embankment for the elevated tracks. The embankment will also blend into a new, smaller mountain/tunnel to the left.

I've only just begun and I'm already sick of styrofoam - LOL.

It's taken more than today, but I need three deck winches for the tugboat.  I've managed to find kits for the trawl winch and the cargo winch.  They needed a bit of help, but came out OK.

The cable is 10 lb nylon coated stainless steel fishing trace.  It's very springy with a mind of its own! 

With a bit of weathering, I think that they will pass.

The anchor winch will have to be scratch built.

It has been a long slow recovery from the layout tour / open house back on the 29th. I went downstairs for the first time since then.

I got an unexpected phone call this morning, from one of the people who visited. He came over and we spent three hours studying the layout. He wants to help me set up an operating system. This is one of the major hurdles that needs to be addressed in order to reach my ultimate goal. He also said he has a crew of operators that would be able to help. The pieces of the puzzle are falling in place!

In order to facilitate all of this, he has given me some marching orders on things he needs to put together to create a schedule to operate by. All exciting stuff!

This past weekend, I traveled to Brookings, SD, home of South Dakota State University, for my daughter's graduation.

Thanks guys, it was a great weekend. And yes, it's nice being free from tuition.

Not sure if those savings will translate directly into more trains. My buying needs to slow down a bit, as my current inventory is getting close to full layout capacity, and orders for more are still out standing. Speaking of which, I was just about to call in my order for the new MTH catalog. Fortunately, the list is short.
