Jim, I don't think you have to because of the spring rod they use. You would have to ask someone else, but I will check the directions when I go back out today!
BRIAN< I need your help! You have every railroad picture known to man, can you find me a couple of a BN Crane car and tender?
Mike, you've handed Brian a tough assignment. This is the best I can find. BRIAN! Help us!
Dave, you're a research expert!
Separating the last waterfalls from the wax paper went easier this time. I made them just a bit thicker so they pulled off better. I should have enough now. Then after looking at Dave's scenery work, especially the water I decided to eliminate the third color from the upper parts of the gorge covering it with the color that was next to it. So on that I have before and after pics. The bottom of the gorge I did a second coat on the third color feeling it would work better there for a little more depth. Now I just have to figure out what would be good to glue to gl;ue the silicone in place with. I have the silicone I made the falls with, 3 in1 adhesive from Scenic Express. Would either of these work or is there something else I can use to hold the silicine in place with having a chemical reaction. Thanks Paul.......Pics
Use silicone Paul. Best adhesive out there. Should stick to the plaster without a problem.
Everything is looking good.

That guy with the tether rope is braver than me
I covered the plaster cloth with some diluted joint compound and gave everything a coat of paint. I mixed brown and black into a wash and covered up all of the white. I dry brushed the rock in the corner with the brown too. I'll go back after dinner and finish it up with gray and white to match the cliff in the other corner. I'll let it dry overnight and start on the ground cover tomorrow.
Bob
Looking good Bob. Dressing up the edges with scenery always makes the layout look better. And thanks for the heads up about the silicone. I ended up using what I had left in the tube.
I got the upper falls in and one of the lower falls on the left. Maybe after dinner I can get the rest of them in. If not I got all day tomorrow. I am basically getting them tacked in and the I can go back later and glue them better into place. Couple of pic.................Paul
Thanks Paul. That's a lot of silicone. I hope you work in a well ventilated area while its curing. Interesting method to make water falls too.
Lee- yea, I don't think the OSHA inspector would be too happy if he saw that move.

You bet. When they unloaded a big generator out of a 20 foot container I delivered the guy with the tether rope is at a safe distance from the generator but he has a black rope it’s hard to see unless you blow this picture up he’s the one in the safety green shirt
Bob, The edges of the layout are looking good!
Paul, Your waterfalls are taking shape nicely! They look wet!
Lee, Very nice color and uniformity.
NS6770Fan, the new layout table looks sturdy and I'm glad to see a train running already!
Lew, the remote box looks handy! Keep them right where you know where they are.
I glued down the cork roadbed on my lower loop. The track is just sitting on top. I want to go to the hardware store and get some shorter screws that only penetrate the Homasote and not the OSB also. It will just be a test to see if I think the vibration of the train isn't transferred to the table. I run trains at fairly low volume, usually 30-40%, so I want to hear the high end sound systems.
I also took inventory of my track and switches. I see I need one switch, a left hand 054/072 curved Ross switch. I have a right hand one that I bought for the old plan. I'll keep it around until I'm sure I won't use it then see what I have I want to sell. You can see in this high angle view the upside down right hand one in position, where I laid out pieces to show me how the track will fit. I placed an online order with CT McCormick in nearby Zelienople. I'll pick it up next week when I visit my aunt. I saw Jeff has a Premier Western Maryland 2-bay hopper I don't have, so I added it to the order.
Just finished getting the benchwork up. I'm planning on adding some stringers in the coming days, even though the tables are plenty sturdy already. They're all individual tables so I can move it around if need be. I'm going to put some sound insulation between the fastrack and plywood eventually (perhaps foam or homasote). Working on modeling mostly the the New Haven shoreline through the steam and early diesel days, as well as some modern freight. Looking forward to getting the layout going!!

I know what that's like Lee. This is a 2.0 megawatt unit being lowered into my central power plant. 12 cylinder natural gas engine and we use the waste heat to heat our buildings. It's a GE engine that has much of the same technology that's in their new tier 3 and 4 locomotives.
Lee, Looks great! Only 3500 more or so to go to catch up with John R. Nice placement of him in the REA Truck!
Pennsynut, congrats on your new vision! Don't worry, after you get the other one done there will be more wrinkles to see! LOL
Paul 2, Looks great! I am sorry I am a day late and a dollar short, but I just watched a video on line where the gal was making waterfalls and used the same silicone to glue them in place! But I see Bob already told you! LOL
Bob, Nice Progress! Looks good and will finish off that area nicely!
NS6770FAN, Looks like you have a good start there! Keep us posted please!
Lou, good idea! Now you will be able to find it when you want! LOL
Mark, Looking good! The table looks really classy! But remember Baby steps!
I didn't get much done today like I wanted. But I did get my 2 switches and tracked powered up in that small section! Sorry no pictures, maybe tomorrow after the wife and I go Sunday shopping!
Biscuitag97, The Layout is looking great!
Well tonight I decided to paint my viaduct wall sections, since I am waiting on scenery material from Scenic Express to arrive for the sawmill pond.
Here is a photo of the area this is going to be installed outlined in red. It covers the gap between my 2nd level of the layout and the 3rd city level. On the second level under the city I have a hidden storage yard. I only want this area to be visible from this view of the layout. So I had this wall sections laser cut and brick etched out of hardboard. I may add some strips about a inch wide brick sheet to the arch openings to give the wall some depth. In some of the other arches openings will be filled in with brick sheet to hide some of the 3rd level supports.
Here are a couple photos of the lasered hardboard
Here shows the whole wall section
I painted the brick with white, gray & black primer and then used 4 craft paint colors applied with makeup sponge wedges. Adding a little bit of each randomly and dabbed the sponge in it to apply to the wall . Here are some shots.
Lee, The figures you painted are outstanding. The weathering of the driver's clothes make it look like it was a busy day at work. Excellent job.
I took a few days off from painting people to put puzzles together with my mother. When I spend time after dinner doing the puzzles. I notice Mom is more alert the next day. My quiet painting time is between Midnight and 3:00 A.M., after I fix Mom a grapefruit or orange snack. Still waiting on two German sellers Preiser 65602 Unpainted Seated People to arrive. One seller took less than two weeks to arrive. The other two take one month. I just received 100 (2 bags) of Evemodel 8602 Seated 1/50 figures that Presier no longer makes.
All the work looks great. Please keep posting pictures of your progress.
Sincerely, John Rowlen

Thank you John coming from you that’s a big complement. I just started painting 1/35 Military figures this winter I’ve never painted figures in 1/48 scale till yesterday. It’s just hard to paint there faces when the detail is so shallow.
Everything is looking great lots of bench work again I hope today I can lay some ballast down. I haven’t laid any ballast for about 5 years I’m a little nervous

This is my first attempt at painting O scale figures. Complements are welcome if any it’s hard to paint figures that have very shallow detailing. I painted these back in 1995 they came with the Revell Mobil truck on my layout this morning thought I would try my hand at it. After I was done with paint him I lightly weathered him using one of my daughters soft makeup brushes
Lee, fantastic job on your figure. Figures are so hard to paint. I envy those guys that paint the military figures. I think adding the light wash helps to bring out the details.
Thanks for all the comments Guys! Rainy Sunday here in NY so hopefully I can get more done today. I received some nice Western Maryland freight cars from forum member @cpowell the other day. I'll unpack them while the glue is drying and share some pix later. Since I have a small layout I like to switch out the railroads occasionally. Pennsy and NY Central will take a break and WM, Chessie, B&O will run the rails for a while.
Mark- sorry to hear about the issues at work. You will find something for sure. Nice to see some track work going down.
CSX Al- those walls look great. Who did them for you?
Biscuitag97- nice work. I'm across the Sound on LI. Been up to Boston on Amtrak many times along the shore.
Lee- Real ballast! Awesome I've read from other guys who use real stuff say that they wash and bake theirs to sterilize it before putting it down. Don't want any little critters invading your little world.
NS6770FAN- clean slate- keep us posted on the construction.
MikeG- love to see how those Tortoise motors go in.
Paul- the falls are looking good. Ever think about lighting them like they do at Niagara Falls? A couple of color-changing LED's behind the silicone would look cool.....

I used to haul from this place where I got this ballast on the side of the road where the truckers dump the excess off. They crush it into different sizes. Back in 1990 when they were building the metro link in St. Louis I was pulling a dump trailer and hauled may of loads of this ballast (real size) for the tracks.

now that’s neat and some great pics.
The engine for the generator was all Volvo diesel engine that they used in heavy equipment and their trucks it was a pretty neat day.
Thanks Lee
Here's a short video of the equipment rig. My plant is 25' below grade and the building was built in 1928.
Biscuitag97, First off I am sorry I missed you yesterday! You must have been posting while I was typing my post! The bench work and layout are looking good! Keep up the nice work along with post as you go!

LEE, The Western Pacific trailer looks perfect on top of your flat car! Nice Job!
Here it is, 6:30AM and getting ready to go do our shopping to get it done early. I hope to get out to the train room for some more work and NASCAR!
