If the Fall 2014 York was a grand slam for me (the PRR Panhandle bridge), this one was a 3-run homer.

George

I was with a friend on Friday who was looking for a scale Lionel C & O Hudson as well as a PRR scale Turbine (the very first model from 1990?).  He found both of these in the crowded Silver Hall and was able to make a very good deal since the seller had them both to sell.  But the seller told us that 4 of his engines had been stolen.  He said a "kid" told him that he wanted to check one of the engines out at the test track and another guy was asking him about one of the other engines and when he looked up after helping the gentleman, the kid was gone. He said 3 others disappeared from Thursday evening to Friday morning.

If this is the case, it's very sad.  My hope is that he mistakenly didn't pack the three that he said were lifted from Thursday to Friday AM and that they will be at his house neatly stored when he returns.

Thanks to the Eastern Division for another great York experience.

First time for me, I came home with sore legs from 7 hours of walking and I am not even sure I got to all of the buildings.  Mostly detail stuff for me but I did meet several interesting folks who will be receiving my business in the future.  The Orange hall was like having the magazine come to life, every advertiser was there in the flesh.  I missed one item simply because I could not remember where I saw it in one of the outer halls.  Thank you TCA for allowing guests.  I have to rethink this membership thing.  My 2 hour stop at Cabelas on the way home didn't do anything to help the legs or wallet.

I went to the meet with zero items on my "want list" and more or less had vowed that I wouldn't be buying anything because (1) there's nothing special that I need, want, or can make use of, and (2) I need to keep saving up to take care of the needs of a new four-legged companion (pooch) that I intend to/hope to adopt from the shelter where I volunteer over the course of the next couple of months.

Well, the crew at Vince's Trains would have no part of that, and I was gently coerced into buying a K-Line GP38-2 w/TMCC (Alaska livery). I have a pretty darn complete collection of Alaska motive power--MTH and Lionel--but until now didn't have any K-Line units. That obviously has been taken care of!

Also bought a half-dozen ready-build Z scale (approx.) structures for another of my multiple train scale interests.

Didn't come home empty handed, despite my original intention!

I went to York looking for Lionel Auto Racks and 86 foot auto parts box cars.  I found one auto rack I did not have Grand Trunk.  Paid 65.00 for it (VBG).  I also bought an Atlas-O BNSF Trinity 5161 Covered Hopper for a decent price.   Most of my money was spent at Scenic Express.  Also bought some items from Ross and picked up an order from Gargraves.

Best part of York was running into friends and chatting with them.  Drive home had a hugmongous sgrilled chicken sandwich with veggies at Harolds in NJ.  I never saw sandwiches so packed with meat.   Three people could have eaten it ( I took most of it home).  Was good York.   I was not impressed with the new stuff from MTH and Lionel but I have too much stuff.

On the way home to NC in our motor home. Wife and I were the couple with the 4 big dogs.

I had a great time meeting some of the fantastic people I encountered on this OGR Forum.

I first picked up the Lionel Pocahontas from Charles Ro. Also: Frank's IGA store, two single floodlight towers and yard lights.

My preorder from JT's Megasteam

Some great building flats from Korber (great talking with Rich and Alex and Dina), laser-cut signs and lights, and some odds and ends (wife wanted those).

Ballast from Dennis Brennan

Silver Hall is where I found Lionel 16" CZ cars I wanted.

Just Trains had  the RailKing FL East Coast passenger cars.

Seated and standing figures/accents from the Red Hall.

Two lighted cars from vendor in Orange Hall (garbage truck and tow truck)

Wife bought several Dept 56 items in Orange Hall

I HAD to buy from Vince's Train's since he's moving to FL; actually Vince made me an offer on two Vista Dome cars and the Lionel UP H7 I couldn't refuse.

Bought two taxis and some LEDs to see if I could install lights.

Multiple scenery items from Scenis Express including two of the demonstration projects that the wife liked.

Whew! Sorry for the long post, but WE HAD A BLAST!!! Now driving down I95 in the RV in the rain still smiling!

Bruce (and Chris)

I picked up a few items on my list...

A pair of Atlas 3R trucks

Some Vanilla, Hot Chocolate, and NADA Mega-Steam and some bGone.

A few Artista chefs and a waiter for my new PE dining car kitchen remodel.

And a NIB Lionel 2-10-4 Texas Type in Pere Marquette livery.  (I know they only ran 2-10-2s, but I like it and for me it's close enough.)    That one is being shipped from NJ to my office.  It might be on display there after testing.

Finally:  Loads of great memories!

It was great to meet you and Chris at York! My ONLY regret is that I wasn't able to meet and "chat" with the four pooches, but I hope you'll bring them along next time so I can spend some quality time with you folks and the pups. Heck, I'l even take them out for walks so you folks can spend even more time in the halls.

"The boys" (Hans and Baron) are more than ready to return to York and be your "best buddies," Allan. Sabrina would want to chat, and Autumn would just want to sit next to you.

We had a fabulous time, made even more special by being able to visit with you and all the great folks at OGR!

I went there with no plan on buying anything but parts and ended up with some freight cars I was looking for last year.  I completed my Heinz O scale car collection with the Kline Operating Box Car.  I found and A&P scale box car and a Iron City cream colored box car for $30.00 each along with an MTH N-8 O scale PRR Caboose for $20.00.  Great prices for new O scale freight.  I was looking for a good track cleaning car but I couldn't find any to be had.  I have planed my list for October and now need to replenish my train fund.

I'll go back and check some of my "maybe" items.  If they are still there, great, if not, I'll not be terribly disappointed.

An update for a few "maybes" I did pick up on Saturday:

  1. A Stoney Express Grizzly Flats Station (Disney Legend Ward Kimball's station for his personal railroad he had on his property).
  2. A 1979 Convention Disneyland Mint Car with the commemorative coin.
  3. The METCA Madison Hardware (original - NYC version from last Fall) boxcar.  I paid more than initial issue price for it, but it was cheaper than what I almost did yesterday (see "almost" item #1 below )
  4. Smoke Fluid from JT's Megasteam - bought a bottle of "Big Boy" to check out even though I don't have the BB to try it on.  I'm thinking it will still smell fine !

Here's the "Almosts" (some regrets, some not - noted as such)

  1. The METCA convention table had one full set of 5 Madison  Hardware boxcars available when I stopped by on Friday.  If you bought all 5, you saved $5 on each one($70 per car) , even the first issue that was not available as separate sale anymore.  I considered this for maybe 5-10 minutes, but another buyer expressed interest and got the set.  I think for me, I made the right choice in declining as I wasn't totally in love with all of the others boxcars, even though it would have had a "neat" factor to have the full set of 5.  While I paid a bit for the one car, it was less than 1/3 of what I would have spent on the set of 5.  No regret on this outcome(aside from maybe that it may have altered my short term thinking for #2 below).
  2. The METCA table also has some neat box vans for various NY establishments.  One was Entenmann's bakeries, which has had a series of Long Island related club cars made over the last 5-6 years or so.  (I suspect this was the van Brian mentioned picking up? - Brian?). I passed on this when I was there considering the 5 cars mentioned above, maybe I just mentally stepped back to reflect for a bit after the my 5 Madison HW car decision.  I should have bought one of these vans, because when I went back today the Entenmann's ones were gone.  I'm the one who always tells other the rule of "buy it when you see it", but I goofed here.  Not the end of the world, by any means, but I do regret not getting one, especially since these were really affordable at only $20.
  3. I saw some MTH WVP&P log cars on a member table.  I already have a full set of these, but I tend to like running long log trains with their respective engines, so I considered buying a few more.  It was a bit of a mixed bag in terms of the item/road numbers, but they were priced well at only $25 a piece.  Some one else thought so too , because when I went back this morning, the seller told me it was his first sale of the morning, someone offered him $80 for the 4 which was an even better deal.  I'll call this one a minor regret.  (though missing out on these might have caused me to make the final decision to go back and pursue the Madison HW car since I did not spend money on the log cars)  I really didn't need more of the log cars to make a set, so I hope the person who did get them enjoys them.

If you don't feel it goes off topic too much from "what you got", I'd be interested in hearing other "almost" stories if anyone's got some.

I thought I'd seen everything, but apparently not.

What was the hook on this one? For people repairing boxes? I just can't begin to imagine

As far as I could tell, the flaps weren't for anything particularly rare, so your guess is as good as mine.

I would like to show you a picture of the Lionel B&O EM1 that I bought yesterday (my first modern Lionel steam engine) but it went around the layout twice and shorted out...so its boxed up and I will be delivering it to Alex M next week.

So her is some pictures of the stuff that I bought at York that does work...

From a forum member that was helping to sell a collection.  He had posted the collection about 2 weeks before York.  It's a nice set. You don't see them around much. 3rd Rail did one also. And MTH released it in the Liberty Liner paint scheme - I saw one that sold at the Strasburg show 2 weeks ago.

You might try posting in the Wanted to Buy Forum. You never know . . .

Bob

I picked up a Lionel TMCC Pennsylvania T-1 Duplex, a Legacy 2-Truck Shay, a Legacy SD40 Northfolk Southern Diesel, some ballast, a Korber 3-Stall Roundhouse; some rock molds; a bottle of Smoke fluid.  I even got a free coal hopper from a dealer who was happy with my purchases of the 2 Legacy trains. I also got an ERR AC Commander board and there were a couple of other items that I can't remember at the moment.

I was only there Thursday, so the damage was light........especially when I consider that my big items were for the modular club.

Pennsylvania Flyer set for our club raffle.

Carton of 12 40" Atlas straights for module group building projects.

16 Atlas 10" straights for the modular group.

It felt "good" spending $500.......and all wI'll be reimbursed!

For me personally:

A 6017 Lionel caboose.

A scale US Army boxcar from about 2001 for $20.

The newest TM video.

Biggest prize: picking up my semi-scale TMCC/RS Hudson (circa 1999) from Alex Malliae who has completely re-built its insides. I will post a video soon.

Peter

We had a wonderful time. In preparing for this meet, we had a short "want list". One item was a tractor trailer with a depressed center trailer and load to go with our Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Dealership. It did not take very long to find a Caterpillar rig in the Orange Hall that was exactly what we were looking for. Great Find!!!!!!!

I had preordered from Jeb at Mega Steam a couple of jumbo bottles of Christmas Berry and those that had preordered got a gift from Jeb. We got some figures from Artista and Medal Figures. It would not be a York Meet without something to take home from Jack Pearce so we got a lighted bus and car. Elizabeth spotted a Caterpillar Water Tower that we also took home. Finally, I found another K-Line 21" NP North Coast Limited and an Empire State Express passenger cars.

It was a very productive York Meet.

A Woodland Scenic Grocery store

2 track MTH large bridge with the 2 smaller bridges for the approaches.

A bunch of used gargrave track

some vehicles,Divco truck

Scenic express critters and hillbilly wedding scene, shotgun wedding.lights.

no trains, just stuff for the layout.

The wife scored big with some old rusty tinplate trains and cars. Yuck. Mike Wolf turned her to the dark side.

The York magic was with me this trip - I found two Weaver custom run boxcars I have been looking for for years, and I found them directly across from my table in the Blue Hall, and at an excellent price!

I also picked up a K-Line reefer from the same seller at an even better price (being a repeat customer, hall-neighbor and all ).

I rounded out my purchases with 8 NS Heritage Premier Hi-Cubes from JusTrains and my will-call order from MegaSteam (thanks Jeb!).

In addition, I had a great York as a seller.  I sold a whole box full of old American Flyer that I forgot to take last time.  Every last piece (I must have had really attractive prices).  I also sold about half of my leftovers from last York, including a big, bulky RTR set (and it sold on Saturday!).  My brother had a good York as well.  We are both already registered again for Fall.

Andy

I bought way too much, but still not enough:

-A 2426w tender

-38 water tower

-MPC NYC Pacemaker Caboose

-A prewar Lionel Pennsylvania Caboose (not sure of the number)

-Two blinking billboards (which will get constant bulbs)

-Megasteam's new cleaner

-Light bulbs

-Four Reading Hoppers for a steam coal drag (three Weaver, one Atlas)

-A Lionel 78 Record (from the TCA museum)

-A Lionel Trout Aquarium Car
