What is the spacing between the wheels? Is it Standard gauge or O Gauge? Obviously this is prewar.
What else do you know about this engine?
How did you acquire it?
It is standard gauge. I bought it in a estate sale. It was in a 8e engine.
The wheels also say lionel so I believe they are original to the motor
It is a motor for an 8 or10 'e' loco.
Likely fit in a 318 as well.
Motor from an electric style loco. Wheels are from probably a steam loco at one time. The wheels have side rod screw holes. If tapped 4:36, it is from a # 384 or 390 loco. If tapped 8:32, would be from a #385, 392, 400 or 1835 locos ( This is wheels only ). If you are not fussy, the wheels are interchangeable to use on most all but the earliest electric style bodies . Looks like you will need a new set of wheels - those look like they are swelling OUT, which means it won't stay on the track. Harry Henning can sell you a set!
