Polar Depressed?
A very useless engine indeed !

That thing looks like they pulled it off the Titanic. Yikes.

Gee, I still haven't gotten back to my 260E.... I'd be worried abut the motor on that engine above. I've not had luck loosening up those later motors.

Is there a story behind this one?

Hoo Boy!!! That armature looks beyond the pale! Maybe a little wire brush, wire wheel, scotch brite, baking soda & vinegar, sulphuric acid, Mr. Clean eraser, and a small screwdriver to scrape off what the other stuff didn't touch!
If your layout includes the location of a fatal train wreck from the 20's this would be a good one to use for the damaged locomotive laying on its side that burned up in the horrific fire that ensued after the boiler exploded. Find you some old box cars and slam them against wall then scatter the pieces about. I guess none of use our trains like Gomez Addams did in the Addams Family.
No Greenhorn-Timmy, despite what you see, the boiler treatment is not supposed to go on the outside
Nicely weathered.
Someone with a bead blaster like me could have this cleaned up in 5 minutes. Most likely the e unit is shot though. Motor may be salvageable but the lack of tender and e unit purchase would make it not worth it to me. If it had a restorable tender maybe 30 bucks shipped.

Somebody must have dared the Ebay Lister to put it on Ebay. That someone actually bid shows it inspired some "senti-MENTAL" memories for the bidder. Maybe he had one just like as a kid. It did not run either.
Okay, fess up. Who bought it? Wasn't me...
wasn't me...but I wish I had tossed a bid on it. Been a nice challenge to bring it back.
I would put a safe bet that Dennis Holler bought it.....and it'll be running before the week's out!...…………………...Pat
wasn't Dennis
Now that it's gone, did anybody notice it has the rarer solid rounded floor version and not the typical split two piece version. Not the easiest variation to come by. If it isn't too badly pitted and thus restorable, it would make an interesting piece . . . even if never valuable. If I didn't have enough projects, I might have been inclined to try it myself.
