I have my under the tree loop set up. Fastrack with a CW-80. Normal loco is the Polar Express with cars. But I thought I'd give the PE loco a rest and got my MTH 'Baby' Pacific Christmas with Loco-Sound out and run it some. Worked perfect. Swapped the two loco's back and forth to spread the workload. Then the MTH loco stopped running. It smokes, whistle and bell work perfect but it acts like it's locked in neutral! And now and then I will get a 'Chuff' sound....but it's random and a single 'Chuff' at a time. Have I fried something??? The PE loco, my Lionel 0-8-0 and my Williams loco work fine. I have tried two different CW-80 transformers too. Is my 'Baby' Pacific due for a brain transplant???? Did I ever mention I HATE electronics in my trains???

Dave,
MTH engines and CW-80s just do not always play nicely together. You get all sorts of quirky behavior if they run at all. It is not on the MTH list of recommended transformers.

I'll dig out a MTH Z and see what happens. This transformer war bites.....I worked on a WBB loco for a day before I found out a WBB doesn't like a MRH Z!?!?!?!?!? I am still thinking of tossing it all and run DC!!!
Dave,
You definitely need a scorecard to keep all the incompatibilities straight!

I forgot to say THANKS!
I had time today to take my MTH baby Pacfic down to my work bench where I have all the brands of transformers. When I powered up the MTH Pacfic all it does is 'chuff' and smoke......locked in neutral and will not move at all. I have fixed a number of dead locos in the past....but I am done spending money to fix these poorly made electronics. I am ready to strip the electronics from them all!!! So...... as this is a Christmas loco I MAY just make it a DC loco and use it on display layouts or wait until they all go and I Lobotomize them all!!! Any ideas or is it dead without a new electronics board???? THANKS!
Hello AMCDave............
Its probably for your best is to do the brain surgery on your trains to DC. If it happen to my trains and they giving me fits, i will do the same but i only have one engine for now to deal with so it isn't much of a problem. I don't like train electronics either as they often fail.

Get yourself an old postwar ZW. You can run anything with it with no issues.
Probably a silly question but are you sure it isn't in fact locked in neutral? Did you try the "1 whistle, 3 bells" sequence to unlock? Just a thought.
I will double check Thanks! But with it chuffing like it's running around the layout but bell and whistle not working it looks like a fried board. I isolated the motor and it runs fine. Thanks
