1/64 th scale cars. The current companies are M2, and Greenlight. Google Diecast Direct and look at their website. Or search your local Wal-Mart or Target toy department. ToysRUs may yield some results as well.
1/64th
Look up Lledo brand. They're made in China now, not by the original owners, so I don't know how good these are, but originals are available and are accurate, not crazy hot rods like Hot Wheels.
I was thinking 1/64 but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the leads guy's.
If you collect F&F cars from Post cereal in the 50's, they are exactly 1/64th, and nice models, too.

1/64th is about right. Right in between 1/43(O gauge) and 1/87(HO gauge).
Walmart has a line of autos out that are about right for S gauge. Its down the hotwheels/matchbox isle. Lots of variety and colors and styles. I kinda liked them except they are to small for O gauge.
Unless you are a real stickler for scale there are many options that look pretty good. Remember Gilbert talked about S Scale but many of their products were far from scale. Look at the loads for the unloading cars. A manoil coupe is not very scale.
I use toy cars and trucks from a nomber of sources old and new. In fact I have many Flyer loads on my roads including Tootsietoy, Manoil, and Renwal.
Many of the three inch Tootsietoy cars are 1/64 as well.
I've always thought matchbox and hotwheel cars were nominally 1:64.
I have six cars coming from Die cast Direct this week and I found a couple at CVS that look close.

I kinda like the M2 line of vehicles even though they still "look" too small for S. Many of the Lledo cars and trucks seem better proportioned to my eye. I guess I tend to use what appears right to me.
