What is your favorite MTH Railking diesel,steamer or electric locomotive?

Mine is my 1st MTH locomotive, also 1st O gauge locomotive I bought for myself.  Got it used and it's what got me 100% in O gauge.  Loved the sounds and smoke.  It's the 1st PS-1 equipped Dreyfuss Hudson.  I have since added a Protocoupler to it (It didn't come with one, it was an option.), as well as swapped the lower frame out with an ESE so that I could have the disk wheels on it that I like better.  Despite being fallen on, stepped on, and run off of the track at top speed, it still runs like a champ.

At some point it'll get converted to DCC or TMCC and LED light headlight, as well as add cab, firebox, and rear lights.

I would have to nominate my MTH N&W Y6b.  It is the PS2 version.  I bought it at a train show with no box for $125.00.  Runs, smokes and sounds like a champ.

Not railking but my Milwaukee EF-3 three unit box cab electrics is right at the top of mt favorite locomotives. Seen these guys daily back in the 50's & 60's passing through my hometown.

My favorite RK steam is my Imperial N&W 611. Favorite Railking engine overall has to be my RK Scale Southern RS-1. It has more add-on detail than any other RK engine I've seen, and I love the sound of those rough-running Alco engines.

I love my Illinois Terminal Alco RS-1 30-20384-1.  It's RailKing but it's scale and it was a bargain.

+1 on the RS-1, though mine is a Pennsy.  Generally speaking, scale RailKing diesel-electrics really hit a sweet spot for me in terms of feature set/price/detail. I consider them a really good value, especially if you happen to catch a sale!  I always hope for some scale-proportioned small steamers in RailKing, similar to some of the LionChief plus issues from Lionel, which I am also a fan of.

I'm a shortline&drilling&blocking&switching kind of guy so it's the PS3 EMD SW1500 for me:

New York Central SW1500 #9654 (MTH 30-2217-1 with PS2) is the only Railking diesel  that I own. It is scale sized and appeared in the 2001 Volume 1 catalog.

This is tough!   How about a Premier top 5?  

Hmm, CB&Q E8, Santa Fe Alco PA plated,  Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northern, this years Amtrak E8, or maybe the Republic Steel switcher?  I do agree with PRRMP54 on those Chicago EL trains.  Any of the SD40-2's, CSX #8888 or maybe the MoPac SD40-2.  Ok, thats more than 5.  

Alright, here it is...  the Norfolk Southern SD60E #911 honoring first responders.  

It has to be the only one I own. MTH ES44AC Gevo, love the charging lights. 

I was beyond thrilled when MTH came out with its version of the Baltimore and Ohio C-16 0-4-0T, commonly called the Dockside, Docksider or Little Joe. In fact, it was 20 years ago this fall, as part of a RailKing set.

My beat-up model has seen a lot of miles.

I am not sure I could pick a favorite as I love them all. But if I had to chose it would have to be the very first "J" MTH came out with back 1990 or so as it was my first "J" and something my father and I aways wanted but could never afford the Lionel 746. Now I have 2 MTH's and the 746.

I change out the trains on my layout every Saturday so; my favorite MTH engines are whatever is running on my layout any given week.  😉

Mine is the MTH AMTRAK Genesis !!

This question is no less difficult or impossible to answer than naming a favorite child.

My answer is [ALL] the MTH New York Ontario and Western Premier diesels and steam camelback locomotives.

My 2-Rail scale wheel steam locomotives are a close second.

When they arrive in a month or so the Railking model of New York Central #8223 will be unlike all other Railking models of the NYC RS3, so that is likely to be a favorite too.

That is a good looking engine, like the red window frames on the Y6b.  Too bad U.P. didn't paint the window frames red on the Challenger and Big Boys.

Lionel semi-scale GG1 in Brunswick Green with five gold stripes.  Lionel 675, early version with Baldwin drivers.  Lionel 2343 F3.  Lionel 671 turbine.  Early NW2 switchers.  Early FAs.    Gee, it's difficult to pick one over the other.  However, my GG1s seem to be flawless when it comes to operation.    

Sorry I don't have any pictures to post but my two favorite Rail King Locomotives are an Imperial SP Cab Forward and the Illinois Terminal RS-1 which is actually Scale.  A picture of that one has already been posted.  Haven't had a chance to run either one but I sure like them.  This has been an interesting thread, thanks for starting it and thanks to all that have posted.

Well for me it would be the SP daylight. During my high school days, I worked at a Hobby shop, that had a nice size HO layout. At the time, dad and I were building an HO layout at home. Didn't have the room for the radius engine needed. So I bought the loco and the cars, just to run it the days I worked.  Got older, into other things, sold it off.  Bought a house, train bug bit me. Wanted to build a HO room, but I do everything RC.. so... I needed space. YouTube led me to shelf layouts, and seeing the Daylight. Gears started turning. Then I read many forums on here, found out what Gargraves track was. Another big cost savings. Yep, going with 0...

And when I worked at the shop, onboard sound was just in the early stages. All sounds I had were the clickity clack of the track, thats it. Had hard time finding the SP new, so I bought the UP ES44AC. All the sounds really brought it to life for me. 1st engine with so many features. Big, and detailed.

Then I finally found the Daylight, at a good price, and a new unit, without arm and a leg for shipping costs.

PRR doodlebug.  Does a great job as a passenger train on a small layout.

I own several MTH RK Imp steamers.  Love 'em all.  Being a Pennsy fan my favorites are the PRR K4s, L1s, and M1a.  All three are pictured below.  I modified the M1a (far right)) with a Pennsy style cast pilot from PSC.  I added a PSC pilot and other details to my K4s (center).  My L1s (left) also has PSC details added.   All are super smooth runners.  Hard for me to pick a favorite among these three.  I will say the PRR L1s is a fun loco to run for switching and way freight play.  The 2-8-2 looks right at home at navigating O42 curves and switches.

For me it's the allegheny. My dad bought us the C&O PS1 version when I was a kid and then my uncle got us the PS3 version. They doubleheaded nicely and of course one could haul all those milk cars but why not when you have two haha. My dad has always been a fan of the cab forward so I know that would be his pick. 

Favorite RK locomotive?  Maybe the Coors Silver Bullet or perhaps the Aerotrain.  Both are somewhat unique and I've only seen them in Railking.

yes , when done running the trains then i slip the board under the mattress and top of the box springs.  no buildings at this time but maybe later. Don't have much space in bedroom as we live in small apt.

As for my favorite RK engines, I really appreciate the effort that MTH puts in to release the special paint scheme trains in the affordable RK line.  My son is grown now, but when he was younger and showed interest in trains, the ones he had interest in were the ones he could actually go see.  His favorites and thusly mine are the J 611 and the NS OCS. He still loves those trains as an adult.

Why thank you very much. My dad painted to backdrops and was very much going for a Virginia look. Dad has a railing 611 and that thing is a beast just like the real one.
