My favorite is the SF AC6000, just incredible.
The UP SD 70ACe, cab number 8444 is the best sounding diesel I have ever heard. Everyone I have shown it to says the horn makes you feel you are at the crossing of a real train.
Happy railroading,

es44s any of them
Lionel CSX AC6000 superbass. The horn is the closest to a real one I have heard.
Though small, the UP GP-7 has great sound and a fantastic horn.
It's pretty much the reason that we don't run any of our older TMCC stuff anymore.
I vote for the CN SD70 I have from the coal train set.
I don't think that it is possible to choose one, as they all sound fantastic. Just like their prototypes, each model sounds different to another.
NYC DD35 for me has bold rich sound to date and right behind it the NYC GP 35's.
I have only the U30C and DD35. Both are good but the U30C is just fantastic.
UP sd70ace 8444 definitely sounds great. CSX AC6000 super bass is close second.
CP VISION ES44AC and BNSF ES44AC.
All of them have really good sound, I think my NS Genset is up there in sound quality if I were picking.

+1
The best sounding horn I have heard on a Legacy diesel.
Hard to beat the legacy GP7 for near perfect sound.
MY SF GP-7 is the best but the SF AC6000 gives it a good run for its money.

Wheres that MR GP35 video Nicole?, that loco sounded fantastic!
My Lionel PRR SS Centipede pair sound pretty awsome.

I agree! and the heritage 2012 sd70 has the same horn.
I will add even through it is not a diesel the NKP 765 is very good also.

where is your pick?

I have this engine (#8444) too and fully agree that this is the best sounding horn in my diesel collection. I wish the overall sounds were a bit louder though like my BNSF ES44.
I only have two Legacy diesels, but my BN SD40-2 has fantastic diesel RPM sounds. I believe the recent SD60's Lionel has made have the same sound set. Very realistic and rumbling!
The question is not so much which one sounds best as much as the question is which diesel sound is best. I have 90% of the diesels mentioned in this thread and all are, at least, a bit different. Since I spend a lot of time trackside I can tell you Lionel's sound fidelity is amazingly accurate. Even the Railsounds 4 is amazingly accurate.
Difficult to beat the Genset, GP7/9, SD 70aCE, ES44
Watch my YouTube video with five Legacy diesels pulling the Intermodal. The fifth unit is a Superbass. It will curl your toes! Start at the 9 minute mark unless you would like to see the intro on the UP AC6000
One of the biggest reasons I am now solely Legacy/TMCC is that the sounds are so much better than anything else. In my opinion, it is not close. I have had lots of units from other manufacturers. Second place is Atlas. Their new enclosures with Railsounds 4 has done wonders. The horns are fabulous. Take a listen to their F3's. Amazing.
Scrappy
I agree with mr scher on the legacy sounds, they are all great. I have an abba set of legacy F7's and because of them I will not buy another brand of F units. They are that good. AtlasO is a close second though.

Funny how we (me) get spoiled with what we get. I have a Rock Island GP7 & UP U30c. While I think both are good, I'm hoping there is something out there a little better to influence my next purchase. Hence the thread!

Many of the diesels sound fine, the new gp 35 sounds great. Fred
Gotta love youtube!
Thanks for all the comments. Looks like I'll be eyeing a SD70ACe or a AC6000.
Thanks!!!
