What "oddball" would you add to your roster?

Since I model the Penn Central (1968-1976) I think a Legacy 765 would make a good oddball for my layout.

 

If you are talking about oddball motive power in general, I would have to go with an Alco RS-32 or an RS-3m.

I model the Boston & Albany and the New Haven in the 40's. Don't have to add it. Already own it. MTH Erie Triplex.

The "Not-So-Great Eastern" represents the PRR, LV, NYNH&H, and NYC in the 1945 -1955 period with a strong focus on the PRR and is mostly electric and diesel powered. While i'm at the point that no more motive power will be added, i would jump at the chance to acquire a SAR Beyer Garratt.

I run postwar/postwar style, so there's plenty of oddball stuff.  However, my "modern" purchases (made new, still late steam/early diesel era) have mostly been PRR.  This was mostly because my dad and I were in K-line's Collectors Club and they had a lot of PRR offerings.  The main oddballs I can think of are my Santa Fe F3 AB (a must have for any postwar enthusiast) and about 6 months ago I picked up a WBB Canadian Pacific F3 AA set complete with four 15" streamlined cars.  I figured I'll never afford the postwar version, it's a sharp looking set, and the price was right.  I think when I do eventually get my layout set back up, I may run this on a ceiling loop.

 

And then of course there's my Hogwarts Express set, but come on, would you pass up the set barely used, in the box, for $60?

I have an odd ball I want to sell and that is an MTH GP-9 NYC Railking

I run demonstrators, Lionel Lines and roads that are/were in Michigan and Ohio.  One day, I plan on adding a Texas Special and a Santa Fe war bonnet to the roster.  My father had a publicity photo of the Super Chief and NYC 20th century limited parked at Cleveland.  So, I guess a war bonnet works with my plans.

 

If they do a scale Reading Crusader, I would bite.

 

Southern Pacific cab-forward was an "oddball" for me, but I made it work by changing it to Lionel Lines lettering.

When someone says "oddball", the C&O M1 steam electric leaps to mind.

Yep, definitely an oddity; but it sure looks spiffy pulling a set of C&O streamlined cars.  I now have a full M1 train in my collection, and I enjoy it immensely in all of its spiffiness!

 

As far as adding something odder to my collection, the Angus comes to mind

When I think "oddball", I think equipment vs. roadname, which would include a long

list I would at least have to switch to two rail O to get, if not HO. I am kitbashing

some of it.... If roadname, none of them are available either...Tennessee's Little

River Logging 2-4-4-2 would be prototypically out of place on my Colorado mining

road..BUT, would be promptly pressed into service there, if I got my pink paws on it.

My oddball is the Texas Special as Keith mentioned.  I have all Appalachian Railroads, but I bought a postwar Texas Special AA set, and would like to get a few passenger cars for it when the time and price are right.

Rock Island blue paint scheme engine.  Love that blue color as it is so different.   Many associate it with the end of the line,  which it was,  but like the large R and the light blue color.   Early GP type diesel.......  I am in Florida so it does not fit my typical preferences.

I was thinking that very same engine!

Good choice! I herd Lionel released a new Y6b I haven't seen it yet though but Eric Siegel has one and it looks cool!

I already have a MTH angus 0-8-8-0, a MTH NY&NE 4-4-0 and NYC 999 4-4-0, an MTH PRR H3 2-8-0, a Third Rail B&O 2-8-0 and others.  I like small and old time steam engines-----no diesels.  I would jump on anything Colorado Midland steam like a bird on a June bug.   ODD

Probably a GG1 which I have absolutely no use for but it is beginning to grow on me and I could tow a batch of 2400 series cars behind it.

I think I already have one, an Interstate RS-3 that doesn't fit in with my almost all BNSF fleet. I wanted an RS-3, BNSF has none, this one was really nice looking with a really nice color scheme (has some orange paint) and I couldn't pass it up.

I like the old ten-wheelers like the Southern Baldwin involved in The Wreck of the Old 97.  I would like to get one, and it surely would be an oddball on my 1957-era layout. (A tourist railroad, maybe).

The oddest ball in the place is me. Everything else is relatively normal.

I'm kinda liking the Wheeling & Lake Erie SD40-2's.  I model contemporary Conrail and Norfolk Southern, but, I've had the opportunity to check-out the W & LE between Bellevue, OH and Monroeville, OH recently.  I love the current graphics.  BTW, lottsa NS Action in Bellevue, OH!

My fleet is supposed to represent the PRR/NYC 1930s-1950s, but there are a handful of items that are out of place:

• Conrail GP38: right region, wrong era.  Though it does bear PRR lettering

• Great Western Shakespeare Express: right era, wrong region.

• Polar Express baggage car

• Lionel artwork box car

I still intend to everything together at the same time, though.

Maybe the term oddball is a little strong, but the TriPlex is unusual. 

 

 

 

 

When you first posted photos of this project, I thought it was very cool. Not only is it cool, but I like it a lot. Very ingenious.

 

I am being tempted by the LionChief Plus camelback.   Certainly an oddball in my book, Northeaster RRs only.   But it looks cool, great  detail, and the LC+ features are excellent.   So I may break down and order one.
