What's this all about?

It is an automatic upgrade...if you have v1.4 just ignore when they come...do not install 1.3...I allready went through the same thing when I got my legacy 2 months ago! 

Thanks much!  I wasn't planning to do anything with it, but wondered why they would even bother sending it.  Mind you I'm not complaining; just kind of curious as to why.

Lionel has not updated their upgrade shipping I guess. another thing to ask mike reagan about.

And what ever you do, do NOT load 1.3 in your system.  The newer systems have a different display and 1.3 does not support it.

What is the difference in the displays?

They replaced the display with a different model, which apparently requires a different software drive sequence to display.  I'm sure the 1.4 and beyond has a test to see which display it's dealing with, but 1.3 didn't know about the new display.

My v1.3 modules (accompanied by a Legacy manual) arrive today.  I will just keep the modules nicely sealed in their package and place everything in the file drawer at home that holds all of my locomotive and other train item instructional manuals

Has to do with the internals, judging my what those who have tried to install 1.3 have said its display related. However all the older CAB2's are fully compatible with 1.4, you just can't downgrade the newer ones, So no one is getting left behind

Well, I'm guessing a supplier change or an unavailable display of the previous design.  I don't see how anyone is left behind, since 1.4 works in both old and new CAB2.  Exactly what are you talking about?

I believe Lionel just routinely sends out those v1.3 modules when you register your Legacy system (I registered online).  Of course, when you already have v1.4 in both the base and remote, you don't need an earlier version.  As a result, it's just something I have already offered to send (on another thread) to anyone who might need or want that earlier version.

I thought I read in a earlier post on this topic that earlier versions of the CAB-2 would not operate the newer versions. Guess I was mistaken.

I wonder if Lionel wised up and used gorilla glass, which is unbreakable and used on many tablet computers, on the latest version. The glass on earlier versions was subject to breaking.

If someone said the update didn't work on earlier units, they were mistaken.  Both of mine are running 1.4, and one of them is several years old, the other about a year and a half.

I know I treat my CAB2 units carefully, as I'm aware of the complaints of glass breakage.

What was said was 1.3 will not work on the newer systems because of the display.  1.4 works on all systems.
