I just got my die cast 4-4-2 and I love it - except got the valve gear. It has the cheap version where a tab on the front of the drive rod goes through a slot in the cross head. I noticed that some of the older 4-4-2's have a different drive rod that bolts to the cross head. I like the detailing (other than the valve gear) on the new loco better, and I don't want to wreck an older engine by canning the parts. Does someone know where I can buy just the parts?

And do you want the original style replacement parts, or do you want to modify it to look like the pic on the right?

I'm not sure what the model number of the loco on left is, I bought it from a set break up. The set number is 7-11291. I'd like to replace the valve gear with the one on the right, which I believe is an 8800. I think it will make it look a lot better, then I'm going to modify the tender to make it an oil burner. Here is a link to the loco I bought on eBay:

Actually, that makes it easier since I won't need the whole valve gear setup, just the main rods. Then I can modify the crosshead to accept a screw, shorten the rods a bit, and I'm done
