Hey there Members:

I'm once again in the mental planning stages of my layout.  I'm starting to do the drawings on a 4 stall roundhouse which I plan on connecting to a Millhouse River Turntable (32").  While doing the drawing of the roundhouse I was wondering if it would be feasible to wait until I start building the layout and have the area mapped out or possibly wait until the turntable was in place before I build my roundhouse.  I'm not sure if I build the roundhouse and have it ready for the layout would there be problems aligning the whisker tracks.  I'm in need of expertise.  Thanks again. - MARSHELANGELO

Map out how much space you'll need before construction. The angle of the stalls in your roundhouse are going to determine how far back from the turntable it will have to sit. The width will be determined by this angle and how deep you want your stalls.

Basically, on a roundhouse with stalls set at 7.5 degrees, you're looking at sitting it pretty far back from the edge of the turntable. Ours was built to 10 degree stalls so we could sit it closer to the turntable.

Eric's Trains had some good videos on the Millhouse River turntables in his video blogs of his layout build. Good info here.

Episode 45, Testing The New Turntable, Episode 46

From these videos it looks like the line up with the whisker tracks are not a problem with the turntable indexing system. Looks like almost infinite line up possibilities. Lots of other good videos there as well.
