Yes, you have to be a member or have a member sign you in as a guest.  You can join at the meet by going to the registration area in the Silver Hall, but it is cheaper to join and pre-register than to join and register at the meet.

Join and go.  You won't be sorry.  My first few Yorks, I could only do one day, so I drove there and back again, 4+ hours each way, and I would do it again if I only had one day to attend.

Same here.  I'm only 45 min away.  April is also the beginning of the boating/fishing season for me so my marina may win out.  Besides, trains are a winter sport!

I'm a relatively new guy and just trying to "learn the ropes" so to speak.

Go ahead and ask.  That is a big part of what the forum is for - sharing info.  Some will ask that you read through Clem's Primer first (see the post at the top of this forum section's main page) as it covers a lot of the technical questions.  For the more subjective questions, you will find many helpful answers and opinions here.

York is a wonderful meet put on by an excellent chapter and I can only say good things about the people that run it. I will not be attending and will miss going, but value judgments are a part of my decision making process. After a 35 yr. continuous membership with the TCA;  I decided to join the over 2000 members that cancelled their membership last year. The $50 membership is apparently having a negative effect.

I guess that they won't miss me at York but if the TCA loses another 2000 members this year, the E.D. might have to adjust the rules to preserve the York audience. IMO, lifting the one time only guest rule should be considered.

Great post.

Your profile says Utah - even once a year is quite an accomplishment.

I make sure that I have the time off arranged for each April and October.  Started going in 1989, and haven't missed one since 2005.  Recently changed jobs, and negotiated the time off before accepting since the next York would be before I accumulated enough vacation time.

It's a 9+ hour drive each way, but worth it.  Always amazes me to read the posts from people who complain about having to make a 2 or 3 hour drive.
