I have read several threads and know there is at least one other forum member who can (using the latest loader software), successfully update their TIU code, however, the loader software cannot find the TIU when trying to update the remote. There are many reponses from the DCS gurus to check for bent pins, wrong cable types etc, however, the only thing that works for me is to beg and borrow a friends old PC that has a "real" serial port. I have tried 3 different PC's and operating systems (all using a radio shack USB to serial wire and nothing completely works. The loader process always works when updating the TIU, however the remote update process can NEVER find the TIU. Using an old PC that has a "real" serial port, works all the time. As a former software developer, the symptoms are like the DCS loader source code is using two different pieces of logic to find the TIU in order to update the TIU verses the updating of the remote. I opened a ticket with MTH support and asked them to chime in.....Just wondering how many others struggle with this strange issue.

Are you using the RS cable to update a non-Rev. L TIU through it'a serial port? If so, that's exactly what I do when using Windows XP, and it updates the TIU and the remote every time.

More recently, I found that the RS cable I have doesn't work with my new Toshiba laptop at all, probably because I didn't scrounge around for a Window 7 driver. My RS cable and its software pre-date Windows 7 by several years.

However, I am using a different USB to serial cable purchased from CompUSA and it works perfectly with Windows 7. I've used it with every Rev. TIU that ever was (G, H, I, I3, I3a) except the Rev. L. For the Rev. L I use a straight USB to USB cable.

I've done TIU upgrades, remote upgrades, sound file transfers in both directions, and backed up and restored remotes, all without any problems using the conversion cable for the older TIUs and the straight USB cable for 3 Rev. L TIUs and their remotes.

My best guess is that your RS cable may not have the correct driver installed in Windows on the PC. How old is your RS cabe and what driver is installed?

Yes, I have a rev H1 TIU. The RS cable is a few years old, however, I do have the latest drivers downloaded for it for both XP and Windows 7:

PL2303 Driver Installer v1.2.10
- Windows 2000/XP/Server2003 (32 & 64-bit) WDM WHQL Driver: v2.0.13.130
- Windows Vista/7/Server2008 (32 & 64-bit) WDF WHQL Driver: v3.3.11.152

I'll check out the CompUSA cable to save future heartburn and frustration....
Thanks!

Barry,

The CompUSA USB to Serial DB9 cable works like a charm.

I just downloaded sound files for two engines.

The was an option on the olde DCS loader to upload a sound file from engine to PC.  I guess it's not important because you can always download the original sound to the engine from the MTH website.

That was MTH's assessment, as well. However, after many requests from DCS operators, MTH has stated that the next release of the Loader Program will restore that functionality.
