Members even got to meet with Lionel President & CEO, Howard Hitchcock and his team. Thank you Lionel for making this special event so special for our LCCA members.

The show will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday! For more details about the Saturday and Sunday public event, please visit our website at www.lionelcollectors.org

To those who are there... I would really like to see prices and what was available regaurding high end legacy steamers.

My reason for asking is that I have considered going the past 2 years but have not because it is quite a haul from St. Louis, MO. It looks like lots of fun but again, a long haul for me. That being said if the deals are good enough, I would be more inclined to go.

If you do not wish to post prices directly on the forum then please send me an email (in profile).

I have never been to this event due to the long drive.  But if I recall correctly from other years, the high-end Legacy locomotive stuff is mostly limited to warranty returns that became "refurbished units".

Those "high end" products are largely BTO, so it's not as if Lionel has tons of brand new BTO items sitting in their NC warehouse.  That's just not the way BTO works.

However, the photos we see where STACKS of stuff are featured in aisle-ways largely represent the non-BTO, open-stock product (I.e., accessories, track, traditional rolling stock, boxed sets, novelty items, etc...) that Lionel DOES keep in their NC warehouse inventory.  And those prices are probably very attractive -- hence the great crowds we see in the pictures.

This crowd was for the LCCA members and Lionel's die cast club members only evening.   We are expecting a much larger crowd today and tomorrow.   There were a wide range of deals.  Some were IMG_5177IMG_5170IMG_5171IMG_5169IMG_5178better than others.    I like to do my Christmas shopping there.  There were lots of items i baught to give away as gifts.

For those of you who can't make Lionel's warehouse sale and are looking for Lionel Christmas ornaments, you might want to keep an eye open for stuff like that at Ollie's, an overstock store that sells it's merchandise dirt cheap.  Last year, I bought a bunch of Lionel Christmas ornaments for $2-$5 that most train shops would typically sell for $20-$30.  It was unbelievable, but also somewhat luck-of-the-draw at places like Ollie's.  One year they might have something -- and another year nothing.  The selection also varies greatly by store.  I suspect the Christmas novelty items at Lionel's warehouse sale would be at similar savings.  Perhaps those who attended could comment further.

Events like this are always fun and eye-opening, as they give us a 1 or 2-day glimpse into the world of "what stuff really costs" without the typical markups that occur in the everyday supply chain (i.e., importer, distributor, dealer, shipping, etc...).  It's also great to see photos of folks with shopping carts full of stacked merchandise that might otherwise cost them hundreds or even thousands of dollars if they did the same at their LHS.

May have to put this on the docket for next year. Doable drive from the D.C. area with an overnight stay Friday.

Looks like fun!

We came from Pittsburgh. It not all about the deals. We just had a lot of fun!  Al K is a great ambassador for the Lionel Trains and the LCCA. What an asset. Again today everyone at Lionel was so great and helpful. With all the people coming through everyone had a smile. Great job Lionel.

Marty,

Thank you for your kind words.  I appreciate you being a member of the LCCCA and attending this fun event.  It is people such as yourself that makes the LCCA and this hobby so great!   It was great to see you!

The LCCA will be in Pittsburgh PA area for the upcoming events  at the Carnegie Science  Center  and the WGHOT show in Monroeville PA the weekend of Jan 6-8, 2018.  I look forward to seeing you again there

C'mon already!!! For those of us unable to make it, tell us about the deals!!!

I saw a ZWL in someones cart!!

I got a Lionel Sawmill, icing station and rocket launch car off the $10.00 table. There was a box of American Flyer stuff that came out to the $10.00 table...including several engines. They were snatched up rather quickly.

I went Friday night (LCCA).  Had a chance to say hello to MartyE and Scott.  I left with a Legacy, BTO, SP SD40-2 (6-82285).  It’s a beautiful locomotive and runs great.  I wish my steamer smoked like this does, even on the lowest setting.😃

Dan

Nice chatting with you!

We all got home safe and had another terrific time. The 7 hour drive flies when you're with good friends. We all came home with at least one engine and had some other goodies to boot. Everyone is already to go next year. Sure we found some good deals but more importantly we had fun, spent a few hours with our friends from Lionel, the LCCA, and other train folks.

Thank you Lionel and the LCCA for a great couple of days!

So here are my prizes from the Warehouse sale...

As I said earlier yes we got some deals but I just had a blast driving down and hanging out.  It's not always about the deals... but they don't hurt.  LOL!  Thanks again to Lionel and the LCCA!  The Lionel folks were so helpful.  Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Not shown was a bevy of holiday decorations including some garden flags and door mats.

The biggie.  The PRR 6200 S-2 I had to pass on years ago due to the moisture issues with some of them.  I found a few at a great price.  Picked up the 6200 with elephant ears.  Checked it all out last evening.  100% satisfaction!  Let's say it was well worth the wait of 2 years to grab this engine.  Strong smoke unit, great sounds, and smooth runner.  I'll add a little real coal to the tender.  As previously reported these had the cast in coal.  A little real coal will make this a super model for me.  I was surprised at the size of the tender.

Got a few things for the walls.  We found these "drawings" on canvas.  I don't remember seeing these before.

And some wall art on canvas...

And finally I always seem to get a "bonus" product in my Lionel boxes.  Did Lenny stow away?

Marty at what price???

$715 out the door.  There were a couple of other versions for $700.  I checked it all out and besides a little roller wear it looked and ran pristine.  These were originally $1299 MSRP.

Waiting for the financial analysis telling us about Lionel's BTO policy, pricing, and management decisions.  It can only be minutes away....

Just out of curiosity for Marty and other engine, set, etc purchasers.

Will Lionel warranty something bought at the warehouse or is it a "as-is" sale with no warranty, etc?

A lot was marked "as is" but one of our guys asked and I thought I heard 90 days.  Maybe someone else can comment.  All of the items were gone through by CS from what I understood.
