Hey, Guys

I would like to float this idea. Who would like to own a Standard Gauge 400E Circus Steam Engine and 4 Circus advertising cars. I am thinking of  a Yellow 400E and 4  matching Passenger cars. I have always liked the K-line 333 yellow  027 Steam Engine and tender and would use this format as a base for the decoration. We would not do more than 10 sets max, to keep the collectibility in play.

Thanks

Pat

Kudos for coming up with this idea - we need more variety in standard gauge.  Although the decoration will likely be very cool, I'm not a circus guy, and I suspect that most of the circus collectors are on the older edge of our hobby.  Probably too much of a big-ticket item relative to my level of interest.

Also, I hate to be too negative, but I think the concept of different paint schemes on the 400E has been done a bit too often.  Perhaps it would make sense to go with a smaller steamer or an electric - it would be something different and it could lower the price.

What I'd really like to see is something different in standard gauge - maybe a reissue of the Commodore Vanderbilt or the Hiawatha, some interurbans (EBT doodlebug?), or an E or F unit diesel.  And do it soon, before I retire and my budget gets cut!

While I'm not big on the Roadnames on tinplate, UP, Chessie etc, I prefer Lionel, Flyer, Ives names.  I do like the idea of a few specialty types. That's why I opted for the Army train. It will also give me an excuse for some flats with custom loads.

I agree we will use the colors of the previous cars for a  start. This idea is in the beginning stages.

Please ignore my Black Bonnet Passenger car.

I like the colors...however... I do not like the "great American Circus" Lettering.  If you could leave any Lettering OFF, IM In.  Graphics, scrollwork, and car names are fine

In another thread, someone suggested that MTH might have a bunch of 400E engines already built and waiting for paint.  If that's true, why not shoot them in primer and offer them undecorated at a price that reflects the need for the buyer to get it painted?

If you do that, I would think you would want all the trim packed separately, not installed on the loco & tender. Kit form so to speak.

If the locomotive and tender have the same yellow paint scheme shown, I definitely would buy it as it would go perfectly with my 200 series Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus flatcars with their hand-built circus wagons.

However, since so many repaints of the 400E have already been done, a repaint of the MTH's American Flyer piper steam engine or MTH's Ives steam engine might be a better choice.

Hey, Guys

Sorry but we have canceled the Circus Train due to the fact I wanted it to be Ringling Brothers and can not get the permission to use their name. The Good News is we are going to do a United States Navy Hospital Train. I will post this on another thread.

Thanks

Pat

PATSTRAINS just posted the details on the Standard Gauge United States Navy Hospital Train on the O gauge forum, complete with links to order the train from his website.

Pat,

Who did you ask for permission to use the Ringling Brothers ad Barnum & Bailey logo?

Pat,

Have you considered alternatives?

For example, you might consider producing a Standard Gauge circus train based on the Great Circus Parade train that was sponsored by the Circus World Museum out of Baraboo, Wisconsin and ran between Baraboo and Milwaukee/Chicago.

Prior to the Great Circus Parade train, there was the Schlitz Circus Parade train seen below that ran a similar route from the Circus World Museum to Milwaukee.

As seen below, several examples of the Schlitz circus train have been produced in HO and IMHO it's time one was made in Standard Gauge.

Of course the easiest route might be to expand on the Tinplate Traditions circus cars already made by MTH for their Great American Circus Train.  You could offer for sale some new and exciting Standard Gauge 211 circus flatcars similar to those below.  If MTH still has them, you could sell the 211 flatcars with Ives circus cage wagons and/or ticket booth wagons, which have been custom painted with MTH's Great American Circus logo vice the RRBB logo seen below.

Alternatively, I can put you in contact with the Dave Anderson who handmade for me the 1/32 scale circus wagons and siderails seen above in order to create my version of a Standard Gauge circus train as seen below.

I also put together a unique Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show Standard Gauge train based on the prototype cars below and my imagination.

Pat,

Feld Entertainment just responded to my email and asked for details on what I wanted to do.  Interested?  How should I respond?
