Sno why do you say subways instead of cho cho trains. I have both it just adds to the fun you can have.

I got into subways because of this forum and I saw how cool they looked With the way you guys have them set up. Subways also reminded me of the days when I worked in NYC. So it was a combination of wanting something new to run and a bit of nostalgia for me that got me into subway modeling.

Subways are a neat way to increase the operation side of your railroad within the same foot print.

MTH PS2 makes it real easy to program a preset variety of automatic station stops and passes.  Adds a lot of interest.

An approach on a 12' X 12' layout:

#1 Platform on near side of track.

Zach's RR 8.10 010

#2 Platform between track 2 and track 3.  Nearest track is a siding.

Zach's RR 8.10 006

#3 Platform behing the track.

Zach's RR 8.10 003

#4 Subway popping out for a breath of fresh air behind the trestle.

Forty-plus years of living half-a-block from an elevated subway line will do that. So this:

view from the porch

begat this:

view from the couch

And this:

view from the windowsill

...plus a whole bunch of stuff I haven't even gotten around to photographing yet...

BTW, I'm compiling a collection of authentic subway ad photos for people to print and use on their layouts. Might as well have one more convincing-looking detail

I spent most of my childhood in Eastern Queens (NY). No trains of any kind in my area. The subway was a bus ride away. Then the subways could take you all sorts of places for one fare. (They were clean and relatively safe back then).

When my family moved to the south shore of Long Island, the trains I saw were LIRR electric commuter trains.

So I have a warm spot for both subway trains and commuter trains.

SO for going out on a limb, But where did you get that station station structure from?

nycboy- I had this station built for me by Crescent locomotive works a number of years ago. As time went on I made a few changes  to it including adding two mini video cams for easy viewing from my TV set.

Both photos below were taken from my TV. I am able to view four different station cams by switching cam views using a remote control switching device.

Always loved the subway  Earliest memories are going to Coney Island for the beach  Those ramps at Stillwell always amazed me.  One of my aunts lived on Stillwell ave and the view from her rear window was the West end and Sea beach lines.  So you know where I was when we visited.

Took the train everyday to high school.  When I used to cut class I rode the subways.  Rode every mile of the NY City subway system.

Now I am there everyday for work as a train operator
