I HAVE A LARGE TWIN HANDLE AM FLYER TRANSFORMER AND WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN RUN OTHER BRANDS OF TRAINS WITH IT. I BELIEVE IT PUTS OUT 21VAC AS WELL AS ACC. OUTPUTS.
The American Flyer transformer will work as both Lionel and A.F. use A.C. voltage. The A.F. may only go up to 16 to 18 volts, depending on model, verses the Lionel transformer going up to 21.5 volts with the post-war ZW.
With a Williams engine, who wants a higher voltage?
They work fine. However, they do not have a whistle controller so you will have to add one. Lionel made a whistle button, and I see them often at train shows.
