It's been a VERY long time coming and involved a more-or-less complete remodel of the space, but assembly of the new layout has begun. I can't tell you how excited I am to finally have space to run long passenger trains. I'll try and update this thread with more pictures as we go, but here's a look at the old layout, the track plan for the new layout, and how it looks after 8 hours of assembly work today. Fingers crossed, but hopefully we'll be able to start with test runs on Monday and have the wiring finished before the new year starts!

Thank you to everyone here, y'all have been a constant source of inspiration and feedback as I've jumped back into the hobby full-time this year. Between 3D printing and app development and maybe even a YouTube video or two, I'm happy to have this community to belong to. As I move into the scenery and landscaping phase I realize I have so, so, so much to learn, and can't wait to get started. If anyone happens to be in the Charlotte, NC area and wants to trade landscaping, signal wiring, or scenery building lessons for a beer or three, let me know.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Having just finished another milestone on my modest layout (finally got it wired, or rather put another rat's nest in the world), I love the look of your layout with the multiple levels and the helix, looks like a lot of fun! Given it has taken me 30 years to get to this point from moving into a house with a basement that was cold and damp and totally unfinished, to finishing it off, then finally having the resources to build a layout, then getting sidetracked with life, your long time is a blink of the eye *lol*. Congrats!

It's amazing how everyone's perspective is different, and a good reminder of why I like this place (and all of you) so much. I hope I have 30 years of layout building left in me!

I wish you the best of luck with your new layout. The track plan looks GREAT.   ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY.

You are going to love running long passenger trains. I know because I am lucky enough to have a set of Santa Fe F7s A-B-B-A on my 12-car El Capitan and Santa Fe Alco PAs A-B-A on Super Chief.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
