I have an ABA set of postwar F3 unpainted shells I am having custom painted.  Would they fit on the current Legacy F7 chassis?  Or on recent "postwar scale" F3 chassis?

Thanks for all assistance here.  A need to fabricate new attachment points in the shells would be OK, as long as the basic fit is OK.

Ed, thanks so much for the reply.  After posting I realized I need to narrow my question. It is the B unit shell I need to match to a TMCC powered B unit, like those few powered B units offered in recent years.  Is the answer different if we're only talking about the B units?  (I have a TMCC A unit I can use for this project). Thanks....

The modern scale Lionel F unit shells do not match the frames of the postwar style F units still produced by Lionel, Williams, or MTH.

Thanks, Lima. Do you know if a postwar F3 B unit shell will fit over a postwar-style modern F3 B chassis? (would like to use a modern powered TMCC F3 B unit, like the Santa Fe 6-14506 or 6-14517 B units) Those have a postwar-style (not scale and not "postwar scale", just plain postwar style) shell. Thanks...

Should, may have to install a plastic block for screw attachment or just leave them loose.

Have installed postwar Lionel shells on top of MTH Proto 2 F units and Lionel units with TMCC/Sound etc. We left the volume turned up and dropped it into the unit as Lionel's volume knob is a roof vent.

Lima: Thanks much. Will continue my search for a regular postwar-style powered B like the two Santa Fe units noted.

If someone knows of other powered B's like this, I would appreciated getting the Lionel item numbers so I can add them to my searches.  I recall a dealer showing me a GN powered B like this once, but can't be sure and don't know Lionel number, in any case.

This is in reply to above chain, ending with:
