I just picked one up from Trainz and I have it all apart to fix some mechanism binding. I was just wondering if any of you out there have added more details and/or even re-painted the hideous gloss ro at least dull coated the engine.

I am considering adding the air piping under the running boards on the RH side and perhaps additional piping at the front of the firebox on the LH side of the engine. Anyone have some pics of what they have done? Al

Those engines had a growl because the flywheel was out of round.  Take the shell off,put the engine on rollers or prop up both ends plug in the reverse unit or send dc direct to the motor and run it.  take a  med file and let it lay on the flywheel until you see all of the brass nice and shinny and no more growl.  some were worse than others.  We also converted the mabuchi moters to ball bearings and balanced the armature in the process and wow do they run great.  The brake shoe kit for the gs4 is also a perfect fit for the nyc northern also.
