You might try searching YouTube for videos of operating GG1s.
Since it's a very old unit with a simple horn board, probably pretty basic. If you're worried about a "prototypical" horn, I think you need to spend more money.

That's what I'm trying to avoid. The horn matters to me.
If the horn is important, I'll guess at about 95% sure that you won't be satisfied with that GG-1.
I have a similar model. I can record it later tonight. I have no idea what the original horn sounds like, but this is a pretty generic electronic bleet. Conversely, it is a rock solid conventional operator. I have used it on public display and pulled long trains for 2 hrs at a clip. With serious weight, two can motors and traction tires, this thing can pull stumps out of the ground!

I had a little help with the horn button
Well, that answers that. I know these engines are great runners, but that is Sooo NOT anywhere near the way a GG1 is supposed to sound.
Like I mentioned in another post - I have one Lionel, a newer MTH and couple of weavers that sound in the ballpark.
I guess I'm going to try and exercise patience (rare for me) and keep looking for that Lionel 6-38521.
Why am I so hung up on the horn? I hired as a trainman on the PC back in 74 and can't count the number of times I've been on a GG1.
Many thanks again!

I say you were very fortunate. The closest I have come to the inside of a GG1 cab is at the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg. While standing on the wood steps beside the locomotive I stuck my head through the cab window. That's all any visitor can do. But it was enough for me. I have to give those motormen credit. The cab is cramped and from what I saw, the seat is minimal.
